Is the government reaction to the pandemic just a ploy to cover up a pending collapse of the U.S. dollar ?

No to the title
Yes to the end of privacy.
As soon as we loose cash as a currency- they win.

Americas debt is HUGE. Trumps wracked it up AND has printed money...
The world is awash in debt.
I'm thinking the paper dollar won't be around much longer or at least there will be a big push to abolish it. Not sure how it will turn out.

On the fence with the "pandemic" being magnified as a distraction. We don't know, what we don't know.

I think there will definitely be a “push” in the near future as well.

Does anyone think that this isn’t something the banks and “governments” ( For lack of a better word) have a hard on for already?

As far as the other part, yeah that’s a tough one. I’ll put it at 70/30 for the “magnified” side. But from perspective, where I live population density is low and therefore cases are almost non-existent.

I’m sure someone in Italy a few months back would have a much different perspective.

Like you said, we don’t know what we don’t know... and I’m slightly suspicious that this is intentional.

withholding the information is the same as lying especially when it results in 200k deaths.

"National coin shortage" Pffft.

Does digital currency spell the end of privacy ? WTF.
I had to google “National coin shortage”.

Since I’m Canadian my search results probably come up different. :)

Interesting though, since you mentioned end of currency, that this came up:

Looks like a proposal to change the legal tender status for older Canadian bank notes in 2021.

I read through it, and although the older notes would be unusable to spend (Unless I suppose the receiver approved), they could still be “cashed in” at the bank. (They don’t mention service charges but, well, of course they wouldn’t.... right?)

For what it’s worth, I thought it was interesting. I think it’s relevant to OP, even if Canadian.

Maybe we’ll beat you to cashless, not that it’s a race, as UBI/GBI is already being discussed as election platforms. And our economy is in piss poor shape compared to yours.

I have plenty of quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. I don't think I will be turning in my quarters or dimes dated prior to 64. I have 3 nickels dated 42,43,45 will hold onto them as well. My prize coin is a 1916 Standing Liberty quarter...first grand-child getting that at age of 10.
plan on going thru all my coins again to separate any that have more than the face value . That will be a daunting task...3 five gallon water bottles full :o:oops::D.

do you think I'm the problem ?

I recommend a little rice to go along with your water.

Silver and gold have historically done well against fiat money. Don't know how metals will fare in a government(?) digital money thing, but I smell a change coming in monetary policy... that which can be manipulated will be.

There may even be an edict to turn in coins and precious metal, it's happened before.

Pro tip, stock up on these...

Electronic money will be manipulated and be used to control people. If "they" don't like you, they'll just turn your account off. How they'll get people to accept it, is they'll lure in people with some kind of basic income and people will fall for it, "free money".

"Big brother money" = Not good.

Fellow stacker! Cool! I’ve done pretty good recently with precious metals.

Only have one Bigfoot. Not like that, Canadian Maple Privy.

Definitely hold onto those, if not at least for historical reasons. I found a 1895 Canadian Quarter metal detecting this summer.

Yeah, it certainly does leave you vulnerable to government abuses. I can certainly see how people can be concerned, and rightly so.

Talk here in Canada has been more Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI). A little misleading, on that it’s not like UBI.

If you’re working you’ll most likely receive nothing but increased taxes.

Yeah, we probably have only a few hours before this thread turns into a shit show. They’ll be waking up from their alcohol and drug induced comas and be in extra bitter moods.

Anyways, enough of that. It’s nice to be able to stay on topic for a change.

I may or may not be part of the coin shortage problem, I have two 5 gallon buckets filled with nickels, dimes and quarters. I've been throwing all my spare change in them for years and should probably turn them in for paper money sometime soon. I just don't have the time to count and roll that shit up. Sorry about that.

Questions about buying precious metals -

What's the best to buy, gold or silver?

If I was to buy precious metal, can I just add it to my Roth/IRA or should I physically hold on to the coins/bars myself?

Where's the best, safest most trustworthy place to buy precious metals?

Ultimately, if SHTF, precious metals are only worth what someone wants to pay for them?
