I think that is pretty commonDialog? is that the secret?
At my dads table you ate what was put on it. No substitutions. No excuses.
You did not get up from the table until the plate was cleaned.
It is a good thing we had a dog.
The rules of the table when my dad was a wee lad were, "Eat it". Now or later.
They were not made to eat what was on the plate. But the same plate would be there for breakfast if you did not eat it at dinner.
That is what is for dinner......on leftover night you might have a multiple choice opportunity......Dialog? is that the secret?

It was always like that here. Taste buds change and sometimes you should try it out a few times......maybe different ways before you say you don't like it.I think that is pretty common
from what I’ve read
forcing someone to clean the plate can cause a lot of food related issues be it-eating disorders or simply not being able to stop yourself when you’re older from understanding when you’re full you should stop eating
Which can lead to a pretty unhealthy relationship with food and possible weight management problems
of course I don’t let my child starve or get away with not eating but I do offer the solution to try new foods or foods you didn’t like every so often again to see if you like them now
2,3,4,5year olds can get really picky so I try
To always have some rotation
Their tummies are still pretty small so it can be more helpful to have a proper idea of what a serving size is because often parents over estimate how much a toddler or young kid should eat and parents in general over fed their kids so if you have the clean your plate rule you have a surplus of calories
They really do better with smaller meals throughout the day
if we’re talking about a older age chid it’s a bit different
