International conventions dictate that all nuclear devices be labeled with an isotopic marker. Of course this wouldn't apply to any rogue devices, but it would cover any State manufactured weapon like we would likely be looking at in this scenario.

There's lots of ways. They could tell whether the bomb was made with plutonium or uranium based on the fallout, what type of equipment would be necessary to process the fuel, what design of bomb it was based on the blast characteristics and fallout, what equipment and materials would be necessary to build such a bomb, what countries had access to that equipment, etc.

That's just idle speculation. One thing that characterizes depressions is that there tends to not be anything for people to do, hence high unemployment. But after a disaster, there is a lot of work to be done, and people are more on the same page as far as being motivated and working toward a common goal.

Here's the deal: The war on terror was a brilliant Idea fabricated by the Neo-cons. Think about it, it's even less specific than the war on drugs. Terror is an Idea, an Idea that makes people afraid, thus the name terror. A "terrorist" can be any nationality from any country of any race and for any reason: therefore, we are all prospective terrorists. This means that a sector of the US government can name anyone a terrorist and remove them from society in any part of the world under the Patriot acts provisions, Rendition anyone. Just a guess here but wouldn't the yellowcake be considered contraband? I'm sure Saddam broke about every law applicable in making the stuff, or gathering it from outside sources (gosh, who would do such a thing ), not to mention treaty violations.

The uranium was ostensibly for use in nuclear power plants. Sure, you might say, like Iraq needs nuclear power. Still, having a functioning nuclear power program is kind of like having a space program. It's mostly a prestige thing, not so much for practical purposes.

Anyway, UN weapons inspectors knew it was there since 1991, and they had been making sure he didn't do anything shady with it.
