You can also take the wrap off of the blocks. It’s really only there to prevent light from causing algae. If there’s enough humidity the roots will wile out.

I'm not sue about black mold, but you should cover the rockwool to prevent algae. Especially if you aren't top feeding them. Aluminum foil works I guess, but Panda Film is good stuff.

I think I'm the only person on the forum to use coco cubes, but I really like them and they would work well with your setup.

That's where they started drying out. If I had laid a coco mat underneath that wouldn't have happened.

Ok ok I understand now ! So how the hell do air pruning pots work? I guess I'm trying to understand the difference maybe they where getting water outside your mat for a little while keeping them alive and then they dry and do that ? Isn't there a way to have the same concept with the airpots that have air pruning?

I think "air pruning" is really "light pruning." They love humid dark air. Those rockwool slabs were in the trays under panda film. I top fed them and drained the waste. The roots grew out until they got too far from the moisture. That's why there was a mass of them in the draining channels. It stayed extra moist underneath.

If you're going to stick with rockwool, Grodan makes those slabls that come covered and are designed with trays in mind, like you're running. You could eliminate all of that aluminum foil. It'll clean up the look of your setup and allow you to work more efficiently.

If you're going to stick with rockwool, Grodan makes those slabls that come covered and are designed with trays in mind, like you're running. You could eliminate all of that aluminum foil. It'll clean up the look of your setup and allow you to work more efficiently.

Rockwool slabs suck. Especially if you leave them in the wrapper. They don’t wick well, so you get dead spots that stay dry.
