Make the changes you feel are best.......I'll do the same. There's an EV in my future
That's totally fine is that's all that was being said, but claiming that teslas will save the planet is about as accurate as saying that corollas will save the planet. Like I said, they're cool cars and I'd love to have one, even though musk is musky and they absolutely will not be saving the planet, at least not with anything close to their current product line.

For what it's worth, we do have some loose plans to live more correctly and less hypocritically, in a location that would see far less disruption than the US, if certain corporations go out of business. People die here without safeway and the boats/trains/trucks that move their products around the world. Other places, it'd just be a minor inconvenience.

Why wouldn't a more efficient company making a smaller/lighter car from less material be doing more? Because they're not pandering to hummer owners?

so many things that have been said that can be argued with but my hatred here is focused on Mr. Musk.

So with that said, Tesla only manufacturers like 0.8% of the world's automotive supply, it caters to the wealthy who can afford a $60,000 car (and the crazy expensive associated repair costs that will come down the road). They have a minimal influence on their industry, just the wealthy and/or dedicated musk sheeple whose shit doesn't stink ...

The other companies have been smart to just wait for Tesla to perfect and then make their own cheaper and better alternatives.

Tesla also force their own direct DC charging standard when the rest of the ENTIRE automotive industry has already adopted the SAE J1772 standard. Their direct DC (superchargers) are just glorified gas pumps that shift the energy source from a gas pump to a standard that's proprietary to them and that just shifts the source of energy to often more polluting coal, gas, oil power stations (and I wouldn't be surprised if they're in some sort of private subsidy programs with local power stations) . If you think Tesla is trying to move us to an energy conscious model then you'll have to answer why they force people to use their own proprietary standard when one that has already been adopted by every single car manufacturer exists.

On another note that SNL monologue he did was absolutely cringy, he basically went up there to apologize to his investors for smoking weed and whatever other things he's said or done that has hurt his financial bottom line, tried to elicit sympathy by the Asperger's that he says he has (and I don't believe cuz I know people on the spectrum, he's just awkward) and then he ends it by bringing out his mother to hug her ... wtf? do people not see right through that? lol

All forms of energy have major problems, especially at our gross levels of consumption, but hydroelectric is probably the least shitty method as far as poisonous/cancerous toxicity is concerned.

The "teslas will save the earth" is 100% a drunk jonestown trumper qanon mentality in that it completely departs from reality. People want them to take over, but forget what 300 million teslas looks like. That's 360 billion pounds of battery. And if you want full-e use, that's about ten 250w solar panels per car to charge them everyday, which is 3 billion solar panels, and at least as many pounds of silicon. Then there's the other 3000-4000 pounds of the car times 300 million cars to deal with. Oh and if you look at the curve of growth over the last 50 years, by the time the obese electric hummer tesla style takes over, it's not 300 million anymore, it's 600 million and everything doubles.

The problems all boil down to our culture, in that, freedom is akin to using as much energy as we want, having as many kids as we want, and buying whatever we want. In many EU countries, they culturally pride themselves on minimalism and efficiency. That will never be us, which means that our path will be much more painful.
I wholeheartedly agree that we are a gluttonous countries (both Canada and the US) and I’m as guilty as anyone. But I do think electric vehicles are a good thing compared to a gas car (when practical) and I only based that on my limited reading of true cost (including the total carbon footprint). We gotta start somewhere because we know for sure that fossil fuels don’t work well. I won’t live to see the long term successes and failures. I just hope my daughters not living on a boat :(. As for Tesla, don’t care, sold the stock and bought shopify ;).

I've been having difficulty in this thread finding any resolution in there beyond "gas" and "electric", since a big block 454 chevy dually and a 1.3l civic are quite a bit different, yet both are somehow the same "gas" vehicles. Teslas are the chevy big block of the EV world, big fat 2.5 ton pigs with 1200lb batteries. Just being electric doesn't mean it's good. Trains are technically electric, of course the electricity is from big diesel motors, but you can see how there's more to it than just being electric. I know it's not available yet, but to me the Atera is the car people should have put their attention towards, if they truly cared about EV being anything more than being for well-to-do housewives wanting to lie to each other about saving the environment in order to look cool and feel good about themselves.

do you grow your own food?....
Meant to add this earlier, but wanted to wait until lights-on. Obviously we don't grow all of our own food, or even a quarter, but I've got some good stuff going in here everyday, year around. And sure, maybe some other seed types get started in there too. :P I don't need to produce all of our own food, rather grow something that can be eaten by us, as well as sold/traded so that someday maybe 90% of what we eat is local, so that life isn't terribly interrupted when a corporation collapses.

I’m more of a big block Chevy guy, I have a camper ;). Like I said I don’t give a fuck about Tesla and just like gas there are big and little EV’s. Comparatively apples to applesEV’s still win the carbon footprint race. And that’s not the end all to the issues facing us, just one.

Elon stated from the very beginning that early adapters with deep pockets would be fitting the bill for the development of cheaper models to come later. The high cost of the batteries is the real price limiting factor. Tesla is producing cars at a price point that the consumers can live with and it's continually going down as new models come out and battery technology evolves.

are those lights run by solar?.....how are you gonna keep them on when the corporation collapses?
