Grasshopper?
You're assuming a horizontal reflector.... and even then, noone's denying it so your comment really doesn't have a place in this thread. All I said was removing the fan leaves that block light to lower fan leaves will help penetration, but you seem to think that's a "common misconception." I understand you're a pot head, but at least show me the courtesy of reading my posts before you reply.
You NEVER remove leafs that are closer to the light to get light to the leafs that are further away.
Lights put out 80% of their light from their largest surface area, the side (horizonal) So lets do the math
horizontal
Lets say you have a 100,000 lumen light (one foot away).
80% direct light and 20% reflected. Reflected light is about 1/2 strength.
At one foot that is 80,000 lumens with 10,000 lumens reflected.
90,000 lumens
Vertical
20% direct light and 80% reflected.
20,000 lumens with 40,000 lumens reflected.
60,000 lumens
So vertical lights reduce your light output by 1/3 or 33%
If you want to give them more light turn your bulb 90 degrees
