lusid's Cave of Blunder & Husky Hut

On top of that I'm getting a Grewtek FM-20 fertigation system and a Pulse One environment sensor delivered tomorrow. Those were also @bk78 influenced decisions. I'm basically stealing all of his gizmos and applying them to rockwool.

I'm also making upgrades to my veg room. I bought a 2x4x6' 5-tier wire rack and ten 40w LED bars for my bonsai mothers. My T5s were all burning out, and the fixtures were super old with a bunch of broken bulb clips and some of the sockets no longer work. I have a Spectrum King Mother's Little helper over them now and they are looking very rough. So it seemed like a good time to upgrade. Technically I'll be able to keep 120 bonsai plants on it with the leach trays I'm using. I could keep way more with flood trays, but 120 is already massive overkill.

I'm also going to redo the floor with white tile and finish a wall that I never got around to. My plants got thrips recently which broke my perfect record of no pests aside from gnats. So now I'm paranoid and motivated out of fear.

He made a video of putting together the diy pumps fyi
I watched it a few weeks ago and saw how easy it was, which made me to feel comfortable enough to order the DIY pumps. It’s really just dabbing the solder while the iron is through a hole. The rest is simple wiring. I’ll have to setup four of them though. But whatever, it looks fun and it’s a skill I’ve been meaning to learn.

Next time instead of sitting the cubes on top of the slabs, I'm going to cut out 6" sections of the slabs to sit the cubes down into. That way they will be flush with the slabs. Watering will be more efficient and I won't have to use the Floraflex toppers to prevent algae. Plus I'll pick up 4 to 6 inches of vertical space. (I was using 4" cubes, but I'm switching to 6" for this.)

*Wait never mind. The cubes are taller than the slabs so it won't be flush. Damn. Still, it will work better I think.

Also once I put the rings in I’m going to tape the wrapper of the slabs around the cubes about half way up. That will create a little dome, which will hopefully tempt the roots to breach the top of the slab more.

I just ordered an ultrasonic mist maker with a float, a waterproof 12v fan and an Inkbird humidity controller to build a humidifier. I have an old floater valve somewhere that I’ll use to automate it. It will help with my vpd, but I’m also going to use in in my drying room during winter.
