Outdoor/indoor solo cup challenge

So I’ve done solo cups indoors bet never outdoors. Until now. I’m at 55’ North so I don’t expect them to be record breakers lol

Would be great to get some people on board again like last time :)

Im going for a peat vs coco experiment. Only tried coco once on my first ever grow. Hopefully can turn out better this time xD

Peat feeds are all organic.

Coco feeds are using salt based nutrients by Formulex.

I might jump in, but my outdoor won't start for another 3 weeks +/-. I have a LOT of Mephisto freebies piling up, and this could be a way of sampling some of them... and I've never tried a solo cup challenge, looks like fun.

Not sure if this will disqualify me, but I start my plants indoors (under a light in the garage) and then put them outside? And depending on the weather and how long a strain takes, sometimes I'll finish one or two stragglers in the garage. So my "outdoor" is sort of an indoor/outdoor hybrid, I guess.

No worries man! Just a wee thread to keep going through the outdoor season. Can be indoors too just whatever works :)

Inwas tempted to plant about 8-10 party cups just to test my stash of seeds lol

What month do you put your auto's outside, I've pack of runtz auto I intended to put out but I've been too busy recently with photoperiod to prep them, is it too late now?

I got a couple mephisto that I can shuffle thru and toss one in a cup. Just waiting on it to get warmer at night. Still have nights in the 30’s-40’s my way.

Depends on what latitude and altitude you’re at. Greenhouse works wonders for keeping the temps up. What hurts me is the night time temps are really low since we are higher up and on a mountain.

so you could probs get away with planting them up until mid May depending on local weather.

They’ll be stunted if the nights get below 10c I find. But can always bring em indoors for 18c nights lol

Question for the experienced solo-cuppers:

I've read that plants in smaller pots will finish faster -- do y'all find that plants in solo cups seem to finish more quickly than ones planted in larger pots?

Probably has an effect for sure. In my experience I’ve only ran the same seeds twice in a cup and larger pot. The cookies both finished around day 70. But the green crack took 90 days in a 9L airpot compared to 80ish in a cup.

The tap root can find the bottom of a foot deep pot in under 7 days of sprouting.

These blue cheeses (although outdoors not indoors) will be a test. Indoors it took over 90 days. I know outdoors takes longer but if it’s near 100 it could again indicate quicker flowering.

In fact I’ve noticed they show sex faster if you leave them in a small container. Usually around the 12-14 day mark!

This part is especially interesting to me, since I often start my outdoor in 1 gallon pots and then either transplant them into the ground or into their final larger pots. It sounds like leaving them in the 1 gallon too long could stunt them by causing them to mature quicker, in essence, shortening their veg time?

Id say that’a more than possible. How long you can get away with Im not sure but I wouldn’t leave it past 18 days to transplant them

Well finally after 13 days she’s surfaced. Took on the frosts like a champ. Weather is warming up a bit now so no more frosts (I hope)

Coco seed germinated but never developed a tap root. Never mind. Will try another

I have four hempy gals in 2 litre pop bottles and one in a solo cup which are in perlite with a soil cap.....and one in a pot of soil.

I have been putting the hempy gals under a 19 watt LED strip light which has caused them to stretch like crazy. (last solo cup challenge, I used both the LED and CFL bulbs which balanced it out better).

The weather has been very crappy, we had more sunshine in the winter than these last 4 weeks of near continuous rain.

You can see that the solo cup is not doing so great, it's a bit unhealthy and quite small so I'm not sure if I'll keep it going or not.

The gal in the pot of soil is just for fun, it's just like any typical houseplant, very little effort required..... unlike the hempy gals which need daily feedings.

Well the blue cheese ain’t doing so good. Been a week and no true first set of leaves have appeared. Brought it indoors under a T5 light for the last few days amd has done feck all.

Gonna try another but at least my 4 others germinated fine. These will go outdoors at 12ish days old :) Got Kosher cake, purple punch, green crack and mimosa cake, all fastbuds. The kosher cake and purple punch are recommended by them for cold climates. Other two prefer moderate climates so will be a test to see how they fair

Day 2/3 for them

I can't play with you guys, I'm in a apt and don't have good enough window light, I gotta use electric light
