I can't see the slightest problem with leaving a hid light unattended?

I've seen a scorched tent floor once now considering the 1000s that used them over 50+ years they're as safe as any other electrical equipment imo.

Its a potential for fire of course but so is your TV and phone charger etc.

I wonder how many fires related to growing weed were caused by HID lights...my guess is likely ever single one. And there have been lots of fires related to growing weed. I hear about them often in the news. Many times, the whole house burns down or (more often) the apartment complex. This just reflects how much ignorance certain types of people have for their neighbors. My opinion is that safety should be an ultimate consideration -especially when the grower isn't the property owner.

Nothing wrong with growing with HID lights. I just think they require more attention and monitoring. I don't think that any good grower is going to leave their grow unattended 24/7, but if the attention is going to be minimal, then I think a safer option would be to go with a less-volatile light source.

But, sounds like OP is going to do what he's going do, so maybe he's just looking for someone to agree with him to ease his conscience. Personally, I disagree with the idea, but good luck.

Yeah Vinyl and drywall can't really catch on fire but I don't wanna risk my house for a dam hid lol I just ordered a quantum board to be safe thanks for the imput guys

Some cash croppers have accidents waiting to happen I'm not in the slightest surprised there's a number of fire's but that's not a reflection on a personal grower paying for electricity and not overloading power points.

It's nonsense to suggest all fires in grow rooms were caused by HID lmao.

Maybe in a high bay warehouse, HID lights would be the best choice, but the suggestion here was if it would be safe to set up an HID light in a closet and letting it go unattended 24/7. I'm not that much of a daredevil, I guess. I tried to find stats on the cause of weed growing related fires, but it was stated that since the entire house/building usually ends up in pile of ashes, there really isn't a way to know for certain. I checked how hot my 400 watt MH bulb gets....damn near 400 degrees Fahrenheit! I can only imagine what kind of heat a 1000 watt bulb would generate, but it would certainly be hot enough to ignite anything that got too close to it. I don't care if some dumb ass burns his own house down, but many times, these ghetto-type grows are in an apartment or in someone's parent's basement, where other people's lives and property stand to be destroyed.

In all the years I have been growing under HID lighting and do not really see any issues. There is always someone home, but I am at ZERO incidents and have goon through many bulbs. Course, I am small time running only 1000w between two lights (400w MH/600w HPS) in two tents. Ensure you are not running things on wiring that cannot handle what you are doing and pay attention to how you set up your tent/grow area. In the time I have been growing...I have had two toasters and a microwave burn up. They cause me more pause than my HID lighting systems.

not only hid but i wouldn’t even leave my leds unattended for 24hrs. all sorts of accidents can happen in life at least something like an ip camera should be set up to monitor remotely and a person very close by should be designated to handle situations if anything goes wrong. this is just me tho, others can have fun burning their houses down and i dont care if they are not burning any other person in the process.

You are more likely to start a fire due to overloaded circuits or poor wiring than you are from a HID lamp exploding.

If you are really worried about fires in your grow space, get one of these..

Ya so let's go with sketchy ass Chinese electronics in 90% of the led's be recommended around here. That makes me feel all warm and fussy knowing so many new growers are being steered towards these low power factor POS lights :peace:
