There's some good info here:

"Fungus gnat larvae do damage plants. When their preferred food choices run out, they feed on roots, stunting plant growth, causing foliage to yellow and leaves to drop. "
Kind of a circle here. But still over watering in poor soil starts the mess. And larvae continue to eat roots containing mycellium. However it spelled. Not after the roots. And too late by then. WOW.

Watering doesn't start the mess. Having the pest in your media in the first place starts the mess. Watering is only a factor, but as gardeners, we must water.

The real question, is always.. Which came first, the larvae or the gnat?

Yes. The top dressing is feeding them. So much bad info in this thread considering your situation. Don't add DE. H2O2, or any other nuclear options. Just get some Microbe-Lift BMC. You could also add quality EWC as a top dressing, or buy some Hypoaspis Miles or toads. Or do all of those.

Gnats aren't actually all bad since they help breakdown the top dressing. But of course you don't want them everywhere. Gnat's rarely hurt plants unless they're super tiny.
this many is a issue . i has this stick trap on the side of the bed/pot . had basically zero of them on it before yesterday then i hung it off my light as i seen a few flying around the light . left it over night and i seen this in the morning lol not lol the vacuum got the rest of them today . on the

i probably already have predictor mites etc in my soil just not enough to take the infestation on. i know for a fact i have soil mites, pot works, red worms and some other red mite, spring tails but that's just from what i have seen

im a give the suggested Mosquito Bits a go then see what happens . if all else fails scrap the lot and go back to coca after this runs over

Get Microbe-Lift BMC instead.

I love those little guys. I have a feeder right outside my window and like 4 bird feeders I have to bring in every night because of the bears. Too cool.
Will eat all gnats from accessible plants in reasonable proximity. My apple and banana feeder is popular. No bears. Coons ant ants.

I’ll leave this here, been fighting gnats all through this run, little bastards, hit them with a neem oil drench and also sprayed with neem oil aswell as hit the tops of pots with some desi dust. Hopefully this knocks them back some. Pretty sure they’l be back at some point though.
6 weeks of flower to go, be happy once this run out the way so room can be emptied, tidyied and a good clean

Buy some microbe lift and use it with every watering for a while. Do that and add in fly strips for the adults and they’ll be gone soon enough the microbe lift kills the larvae. You gotta get them at every stage of life at the same time
