Why does this keep happening with this bagseed? (maybe thats why!)

So I put the seed snug into the papertowel folded and damp, and any movement rubs the shell off, I think better IMO as my media is easy to push through at milimeters deep. Once it is opened up, it receives energy immediately after set under a light and is good to go. I guess I can try planting directly, when I can afford to lose a paid seed lol.

Professionally grown and distributed seeds should always grow, even when old. The breeder would have put care into making sure the seeds are fully mature before harvesting. After harvest, seeds are usually cured for around a month before they are ready to germinate. Bag seeds are random, they grow whenever the plant is stressed enough to begin growing pollen sacks. Perhaps you’ve had bad luck with immature seeds
They appeared in ever aspect, mature. Looked like any other seed, but yeah they were old. Could of been harvested October of 21 or spring of that year. I actually grew a bag seed that made it and was a great plant. Did not get to finish it due to complications that gave me no choice, no big deal, I am all good now though.

I have not seen anyone mention yet, does pushing through media open the shell naturally or is it that as well as the cotelydons pushing them open?
Both, the soil can kind of grab or hold or drag the shell as the plant emerges through it. Also the leaves growing puts pressure on the shell/membrane until they bust free. Cannabis seeds should not be planted deeper than 1/2 inch. I usually go a bit deeper than 1/4in I'm guessing. Seeing basically a seedling in your paper towel makes me think the seed spends all its energy getting to that size never establishing roots in any medium than it has no energy left to do that whe it is finally planted.

When my seed cracks Iike it to be in the soil so it can start searching for the bottom right away. I soak seeds in water just until they sink then I plant sideways in medium about 1/4in. Damn near 100% sprout within 5 days using this method.

If your seed sinks it means it is viable and this process also means water soaked through and activated the germination process. Establish roots as soon as that sucker cracks.

My recent just showed plantation on 4th day and thriving second set of leaves today, 6 days later. I know I would see faster growth with more air flow and high 70’s temps but cannot afford what I want just yet. Doesn’t it have energy the day it is exposed to light? Roots take time to develop tugor too. Can always show what it looks like when I transplant tomorrow or 5 days from now to see how the lower half looks. Just a container to let it root so you don’t get salt buildup in the 5 gal for the 2 or 4 weeks it will take to build a network of roots to counter that, or simply buy you time to get the container ready if you hand prepare your coco.

I feel like they do have energy immediatly after planting as, it must of took energy to go from sideways, to straightening itself in less than 24 hrs, indicating absorption of energy. entire color changed on whole plant too.

I don't know how much help I can be to you. I just know how I would do it. Can you start in a small cup of soil then switch to coco? Feeding brand spanking new seedlings with salts sounds pretty harsh to me. Maybe someone with more experience starting and growing in coco can help you out.

I should be more expressive in start of threads what the inquiry was for, I do not need help germinating but was defeding my method to comments speaking against it, because I just do not have issues with it.

I was really wondering what was going on here with the russian snow, if anyone sees this since I am not doing much more or less than what anyone can suggest to keep them alive, maybe a different germination method if I do a bag seed again but this literally behaves the same way seed to seed, thought an explination was out there for it, kinda touched in that enough, reaching a dead end. Worth trying lol

Yeah I don't t know man I've never seen that. Anyone else you know that grows? Let them try a couple and see if they do the same?

I am out of those seeds lol. We’ll never know I guess haha. Will try the other method too though sometime, little do I know it could work better, just going with the “if it ain’t broken do’t fix it” method.

Your method of germination and waiting that long to plant it in the medium is extremely stressful for a seedling. Perhaps that strain doesn’t like that much stress. Also in one of the pictures it looks like the seed membrane is still on the cotyledons.

It is not, and mind you I tried planting when the root was sticking out a little with the seed almost amputating it. No growth. Got better results this time. Now I did not plant sideways and down a little but really, I should call this the germination challenge lol send you the seed who ever get a plant wins a shitty plant no one wanted anyway.

What seed demands a certain method of germination to live? Probably a seed not worth your time. I could try it on my other seeds that are of same quality but really, if it takes that to survive when clearly the others do fine, I think it is splitting hairs. They need something to pull their shells off, not a thin blanket, hell, that shallow in nice large fiber coco, the light gets to it and it stops developing or stretching and starts to rot, used to read forums of people asking what to do on this when it happened, matter fact probably the time I looked into tying the method and was like wow just do what worked 99% the time.

Matter of fact, lmfao, THOSE are the problems I DO get when I try that method! to plant it before it sprouts all the way. Pretty sure the threads I read regarding membranes stuck and what not were because of them popping to fast.

sounds like you know what you're doing. my only idea is that the coco could have been too hot. I have lost and/or stunted some seedlings that way.

You’re totally right. Manhandling a sprouted seed with a 3 inch tap root and sprouted cotyledons and then planting it in a pot isn’t stressful at all…

Just put the seed in the coco and let it sprout.

First time I suspected that but this time EC .2 in coco and feed is .4EC. Same exact phenomina with this same batch of seeds. Open for critisism, will defend my methods to offer how I differ but non urgant, recreational thread if you had this phenomina

week two, but with daily feed though with high EC

Week 3 same thing but true leaves turning green

View attachment 5169349
later that week, cotelydons fell off but true leaves looked promising

Then days later, sheivled up and died. Do not want to waste 3-4 weeks again.

I would not be feeding them until the first true leaves are open. It looks really wet to me as well. Good luck...

If manhandling to you is let it squirm through a surface then gently placed into a media which with my expirience is the growth spurt phase of which it tells you visually “I am happy and love my surroundings!” lol. This time around, I could not of done better and they just ain’t right. I am lower level expirience which means all I need to be working with are plants ready to be worked with.

This thread is an atrempt to learn somethung extra since all the details can be provided in that run. All I am hearing is it is a shitty seed. I germinated many many bag seeds, this one takes the best of the best, or again, “the germination challenge” to achieve. 6 seeds all did the same thing, tellin ya. something out of the ordinary going on.
