Im not worried about the temps, its going into winter up here and will be -40s outside before you know it. Im already looking at running HID's on the side to warm it up :)

I was worried more about hitting them with too much light, I dont want to cause light damage by trying to go too strong on them. With HID's Ive had, it was plug and run, no dimming, but the light Im hearing on LED's "and from just seeing it turned on" is so much brighter then the HID's ive been running.

120 Sq feet is a lot to light but, if ya got it why not?
Yeah Im not going to light the whole room, the Hydro on that would make my wife divorce me..

Im looking at 3 lights in this room.. and the rest of the space is for moving things around the room..

Id like to stay with the 450 watt led's, I feel if I got 3 of these I could pull 3lbs per harvest in that room. "I could go more but Im not trying to piss the wife off anymore this year".

Not a problem at all. Manufacturer says veg 5 x 5. Flower 4 x 4 so if my math is correct 3 sf4000 covers 48 Sq foot. A little more than 1/3rd your space.

Yeah that would be close, I wouldn't mind a 5 x 12 coverage, but a 4x12 would be able to do what I needed.

We shall see as I go along.. Construction has started, Im hoping to be done with the flower room "minus all the lights", within 3 weeks from now..

I still am waiting on the 8inch vent to come in so we can board off the window with plywood, cut a hole in both inside and outside plywood to fit the ducting and vent for outside.. Im hoping that will be in tomorrow..

Damn i did the math and it costs about 800bucks to light 120 sq ft with hps using 5 1ks off amazon

Usings 5 fcE 6500s directly from mars costs about2500 bucks using only 3650 watts

so 1400w less with the leds per hr
with a run of 30day veg and70of flower
You save about 2000kw using leds over the couse of 100 days

Sothe savings only ad up when you start using them consistently run after run

The hps need bulb changesover use that wattage but can be aircooled

The leds run cooler but too many of them would need a dedicated ac to run while on

Iguess it really depends on your environment and electrical cost to see wich one is really cheaper..

Too many charts! Read your plants. Give them what they want. Not what some chart tells you to use. All strains react differently. That's why it is so important to read your plants. What works for me may be different for someone else.

Sure sure. Quit providing written/visual information and use the old 'just keep doing it until you've got experience...' method.

You know what works for me? Actually reading information from those with experience so I can grow my own understanding while applying it to my plants. Charts/graphs, photos & written information ALL help do that. This is a great example. Is 85DLI too much? Most likely, yes. What does a chart do? It makes the representation that it probably is, and gives a ballpark to start dialing in your lighting more effectively. The use of such information as a starting point to further refine what your plant needs so you're not so far off the mark that you're in the wilderness of understanding is useful.

It doesn't suggest that anyone shouldn't also learn to read their plants.

Both are useful.

Ok the show me photos of what your growing. If your not then show what you have grown. Photos speak louder than words. The proof is in the photos. I'll wait.

Quit being a dick-swinger. That's not at all what my post said.

Your comment also refutes anyone back to the 196's who bought a 'grow bible' because information is bad and you should just spend your life peeping your plants until you figure it all out boot-strap style.

Spending time learning from others' experience is just as much a part of learning as peeping your plants while you do it. One does not preclude the other.
