try putting the seed in and tearing a SMALL piece of the rockwool cube off the corner and putting just enough over the seed just to where you cant see the seed. people often just scatter the seeds to grow them instead of poking little holes in the ground, becasue they barely need to be covered to grow

i always sprinkled them on the surface of the soil. they sprout and then dig in on their own. use minimal light until they are established.

I decided to try hydro'ing a few Persian Whites myself about 6 weeks ago. So far, I haven't been able to get ANY of these seeds to sprout. Is there any chance that the seeds are new and have to sit a while before planting (IE: fall to spring kinda thing?)
So far, I've tried germing about 50 seeds... no luck yet with any of them.

DONT HYDRO! Papavera somniferum is an xerogenic (probably misspelled) plant. It needs dry conditions to grow well. They are suppose to be practically dying of dehydration especially the last week or so. Any water given in the week before harvesting will dilute active ingredients. Even if it can be grown by hydro you will wind up with extremely watered down pods. Plus, you need at least 4-5 pods for a good tea buzz and a hell of alot more if you want to smoke it.

I just have to interject...Every one of the spice seeds sprouted.Now, there may have been some that didn't, I just sprinkled them on some soil to see.They died because I put them in direct sun and I didn't thin them out.But I just wanted to see if they were viable.

If you're going to dry pods for tea, would it be better to let them dry naturally on the plant or cut them before the morphine content starts to fall?

the seeds on bagels are papaver somniferum. I did research before asking the question, and i found what you found, but i was looking for a more specific answer. as said in your post there is a clear distinction between poppys useful for food and floral and ones used for opium production. What is this distinction? I know it becomes very illegal once you slice the pods. So what you are saying is i can grow as many poppys as i want without hassle as long as I like sold some of the pods on ebay for floral arrangements or something like that and had no signs that my purpose was to make poppy tea or opium?

i'm not saying anything. i'm not a lawyer. after i learned there were risks, i quit growing them. i have a lot to lose. :mrgreen::peace:

ya its prolly better that you didnt haha. dont lie you were scared to drop those seeds! i read your thread! Ya i dont have quite as much to lose as you.... But theres no houses within rock throwing distance of my house so im not worried. I wouldnt dare slice them though. Its not even worth it as opposed to drying the pods

im going to grow both the persian whites i ordered, and Tone's and compare to see which i like better. mostly persian whites of course.... yes ill have pics of both *gets up and goes to the store*

the distinction is the good kind is called papaver somniferum and the other twp species are called papaver (something else). I've heard the other two aren't useful for floral as their pods are much smaller.
