Here's a trick I've heard but never tried myself for your gas meter. The way the meter spins is on magnets. So what you can do is get a magnet from a guitar cabinet or wherever and stick it on your gas meter to slow down how fast it spins (therefor a smaller bill). The catch is not getting caught...Well on your gas bill every month they tell you when the guy is coming out to check your meter. A week before he gets there just simply take it off and then reattach it when you feel comfortable. Never tried it myself cuz that's the last thing I need to get in trouble for. Anybody else ever hear of this trick or tried it?

Never heard of it but I wouldn't try it simply because I'm not a thief, and I don't have gas anyway.

You don't have to unplug everything, if some things you want left on then go ahead and leave them on, the more you unplug the more you save that's all.

Listen, I already admitted I was gay in the post, to get that out of the way. :) No, but it's hard not to watch from time to time, it's on 200 channels all hours of the day.

That's the problem most people will be, but that's why you plug in 10 things all on the same power bar so you just have to unplug the one plug in each area of the house.
can you simply hit the switch on the power strip instead of unplugging everything? (disregard if this has been addressed as i didn't read every post )

I wonder if it would help any if I hooked up a digi timer and set it to turn off every hour, plug my microwave into it, and just hit the on button whenever I wanted to use it. Would the timer use as much power as just leaving the mic plugged in though, hmmm.

Yep how much BS could someone own to cut their electric bill in half by eliminating the l.e.d.....Turning off an electric water heater for 8 hours a day is proven to lower an electric bill.

Washing full loads..hanging clothes at least partially....Insulation...turn the heat down.....Pretty silly to bail out a boat with no bottom.

lets all do what OPRAH does mindless.....

I saw that episode and I noticed something that I guess no one else noticed. The woman who did that told what her bill was in March, then she told what her bill was in May after unplugging everything. The difference was like 150 bucks or something, but......that gives a false reading. In March, it's still cold out, so you will be using things such as the furnace that you wouldn't be using in May.

You should unplug things though, CNN did a report on "vampire electronics" cell phone chargers suck power even if the phone isn't plugged in. I wondered if using power strips would work? Do they suck power when they're shut off? I don't know about you guys, but a lot of the time my sockets are hiding behind furniture and aren't so easy to reach.

I got this tip off the Oprah show "I know I'm gay, lol". One girl on the show was showing how she split her electric bill in HALF each month just by unplugging anything that's not being used. Apparently when you shut off your electronics ect...it still uses a large amount of electricity all day long. So what she does is simply unplug anything that's not in use and makes her kids do the same. It takes time and discipline to do it, but it adds up huge, and the more things you plug into one power-bar makes it easier to just unplug the one plug each time.

So for anyone wanting to save or worried about consuming to much power with extra lighting should try this. I'm going to be doing it.

I'm with you Hester... I saw that episode and my bullshit alarm went off as soon as she said her bill was cut by $150.00.... Maybe it was, but not SOLEY because of unplugging everything in the house. I'd be surprised if the average 3 bedroom home were to see more then a $20 drop from just unplugging stuff.

I figured the lack of having to run a furnace took care of about 100 bucks of it. I know my electric bill skyrockets once the furnace comes on.

in my household we do this all the time, to be honest i havent noticed a difference but maybe thats because we get billed estimates each month rather than our actual bill, every 6 months or so we do get a really low bill though,

Not sure bud, I'm not an electrician by any stretch but possibly. The girl on the show unplugged everything directly. Obviously lots of factors come to play, the only way you'll find out is trying it for a month and compare your bills.

All these imbecilic meat heads on here are getting all twisted up over the Oprah show, lol. Were not talking about Oprah were talking about average people as guests on the show.

Listen cum guzzler, you sound like a 8 year old kid, if you didn't notice I was being sarcastic about being gay then your dumber than you sound. If you don't want to do it, than don't. I hate Oprah as much as the next dude, that's not the point here now is it sausage boy ? Learn how to spell and use capitals and then come back in a few years when your all grow up. This tip is intended for people using 2000watts+ of lights and are worried about setting a flag off, anything helps, so go fuck off somewhere. If this post was such a waste of your time why'd you get so offended and take time to write in it ?

I can't believe some shit face faggot would talk about someone else wasting their time. You saw the thread, saw the title, and still you chose to be a fuckstick, enter this thread, and post some immature nonsense in this man's thread. If you don't like it then don't read it.
I myself am not gay in any way, i do watch oprah and proud to admit it, not because i'm gay but because it's popular in the prison i sat in for four years so i got hooked!
Any problems with that?
I appreciate this man lending helpful information on this thread, that could save people money by unplugging the things they don't use on a daily basis.
Do you even grow weed dude, cuz if so you would notice the lights pull a thing called electricity, and by conserving it else where it doesn't attract attention to the illegal grow in the basement!!!!DUH!bongsmilie
Now again, If you do not like,do not read, and do not post.
Just take your immature ignorance elsewhere, and flusster a thread with you and other asswipes like you, that have no knowledge of growing and only want to be clucking chicken heads like a bunch bitches trying to start drama. What bitches!!!!!!
