Ukraine always relied on territorials to man the bulk of the defenses in the east and I notice many are older guys, even in the regular army units. I figure they are saving most of the young bucks for the new armor and to conduct offensive operations and I haven't seen too many of them except when they are on offensives. Young troops have the big advantage of being able to stay awake for a week on offensive drives and that is often required to exploit breakthroughs and move fast to encircle an enemy in a blitzkrieg attack.
