you may allready know this, but if you leave the tincture out in the sun for a day, it gets rid of the chlorafile sp?
Sadly, no it doesn't. The chlorophyll remains. That only evaporates the alcohol and concentrates the remaining chlorophyll. That's why you do a lossy extraction with alcohol initially because it's really effective in pulling chlorophyll. Possibly you are confusing that with the plant metabolizing it's chlorophyll after death which is what makes a slow dry preferable so you don't get that hay smell/taste?

I'm sure there are ways to remove chlorophyll via specific extraction but I only have 3 1/2 years of college chem and I stopped after biochem and only took the pharmacodynamics classes required in grad school after that. But that requires lab equipment beyond a mere undergrad's touch, pissed me off too we couldn't even bring a snack into lab and they used their equipment to make entire meals!

If you evaporate all the alcohol as singlemalt (the guy with the PhD in Biochem recommends) you can put it in whatever vehicle you'd like and it doesn't have to burn at all. For example you can add it to an oil so it's more comfortable or you can add it to an alcohol you prefer the taste of diluted to a strength of your preference. But once you've extracted the chlorophyll you won't be able to get rid of that.
It's probably also because he uses iso. I made it that way once and it was a pita to scrape off without it getting everywhere. It's like shatter stuck on the glass. Probably some tricks make it easier though. I just don't know them.

If you evaporate all the Everclear off it's the same base substance and hard to handle. That's where a little heat comes in handy and why I hated to do alcohol extractions. There are better solvents. It was far too easy to get that too hot. The only difference is ethanol is less poisonous to us than isopropyl. Iso is also a more polar solvent so it's more efficient in a lossy, one pass extraction because of it's extra carbon (and I f'n hate biochem). But it's true.

Ever had black walnut syrup? I tapped 5 trees this past winter and made some syrup. Maple and walnut. Sooooo good.
Nope, but it sounds good. I use walnut oil to finish my cutting board. I'm trying not to find more ways to introduce sugars into my existence. I love them so.

Just random......real maple syrup in green tea is really damn good
Green tea with maple syrup? My green tea is so mild I'd be worried I'd step on the subtle flavors. What tea are you using?

Yes I remember someone explaining this to me when I made it. They said iso was "squeaky clean" lol

Just plain lipton bags in the early morning. I had a fresh jar of syrup from a friend that makes a lot of syrup. I'm not out of honey but wanted to try. I also don't like a lot of sugar so it's not overpowering at all.

Not to my knowledge.

.

I remember hearing a guy say this because he had a bunch of it.

I don't know how bad it is though. Maybe not that bad or only to people that are sensitive to it.

Yeah that's why I love Maple it has the wonderful flavor and isn't in your face sweet :) I'm like my 3 y/o granddaughter on sugar :) it's not good, not good at all.

I was reading some. Is seems like the boiling process makes it safe to eat. And that nobody has been poisoned from finished syrup. Sounds fine. We eat tons of stuff that can kill us if not cooked. What's one more brush with death?

I believe that's in the buds, hulls and roots, not the syrup. I'd trust Cornell:

I remember the guy saying something about horse bedding and the shavings. But he definitely wasn't a "reliable source of good information"

The panchetta was a little scary. Let some meat hang in the basement and hope you got everything right was what was on my mind.......oh and mushrooms those too.......that'll make you wonder if you where right lol
