What would a heathen Mormon know about Godliness that a good Catholic like Pence doesn't know!

He, like most of his ilk can rationalize anything, even Trump. Then again Mitt wears magic underwear! Magic underwear or a tinfoil hat, what's the difference.

Mike was willing to serve the Devil and ya can't serve the Devil and the Lord!

I respect Romney more than most Republicans. (Whether you wear magic underwear or think money denotes virtue, they're different aspects of the same delusion.) But every time I think well of Romney, the picture pops in my head of him leaving Trump's White House dejected and humiliated.

If I were him, I would wear that as much of a badge of honor as I could - but it doesn't change the fact that he kissed the ring.

I can't see Mitt's book being good to Josh Hawley and Ted, their problem is not lack of intellect, it is lack of a heart, they are both sociopaths IMO.

More jackhammer politics from the hard right

But wait...

McCarthy drops f-bomb, venting frustration with GOP members
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) vented his frustration about the hard-line conservatives holding up appropriations, dropping an expletive as he dared his fiercest critics to attempt a vote to oust him.

During a closed-door conference meeting Thursday, McCarthy addressed an uptick in threats from members to call a motion to vacate the chair — a move to force a vote on ousting the Speaker.

“If you want to file a motion to vacate, then file the f‑‑‑ing motion,” McCarthy said, Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) recounted.

McCarthy’s comments follow Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) earlier this week explicitly threatening to call a motion to vacate if McCarthy does not follow through with a number of spending priorities and votes on bills that his detractors were promised in January.

And it also comes after hard-line conservatives, who have been battling with GOP leadership for months over topline numbers in spending bills, forced GOP leaders to punt consideration of a Department of Defense (DOD) appropriations bill Wednesday.

“I showed frustration in here because I am frustrated,” McCarthy told reporters after the meeting. “Frustrated with some people in the conference.”
“We had the DOD appropriations bill yesterday, couldn’t put it on the floor,” McCarthy said. “I don’t have one complaint by any member of what’s wrong with this bill.”

The battles are playing out against the backdrop of a potential government shutdown deadline of Sept. 30 if Congress cannot pass a stopgap government funding bill — which the House Freedom Caucus has also put demands on. The House departs after Thursday for the weekend in observance of Rosh Hashanah. “But when we come back, we’re not going to leave,” McCarthy said.

Gaetz fired back at McCarthy. “Instead of emotionally cursing, maybe the Speaker should just keep his word from January on balanced budgets, term limits and single-subject spending bills,” Gaetz told The Hill.
Earlier this week, McCarthy referenced his apparent belief that Gaetz wants him to intervene in an open House Ethics Committee investigation into the Florida congressman.
“He can threaten all he wants. I will not interject the Speaker into the independent Ethics Committee to influence it any way at all,” McCarthy told reporters.

The Speaker is not the only member who is frustrated.

“We don’t try to air our laundry but again, you know, to that point, if somebody wants to file a motion to vacate, then file the f‑‑‑ing motion to vacate, and that’s it,” Mast told reporters following the Thursday morning meeting. “And stop holding up everybody’s work, stop holding it, you know, over people’s head like it’s, you know, like, it’s this noose that you’re going to try to get somebody to walk into.”

“Get to work with the conference; if you have a direction that you want to take, then step up in front of the microphone and voice what that direction is that you want to take,” Mast continued. “Otherwise, get the f‑‑‑ out of the way.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who has become a close McCarthy ally and was ousted from the Freedom Caucus over the summer, echoed that sentiment, saying that conservatives making demands should raise them with the conference — calling out some of the hard-liners for not attending the meeting.

“If we’re going to be able to do our job, we need every single member in our conference to show up and face everyone else, and then we can work out our differences and fund the government,” Greene said.

The group of conservatives who held up action on the Pentagon appropriations bill Thursday did so over demands that McCarthy present them with the topline figures for all 12 appropriations bills. The hard-liners have said they will not move forward with the government funding process until they review the numbers. In addition, the Freedom Caucus is demanding policy conditions on any continuing resolution to fund the government past relating to the border. The hard-liners’ stance as of Thursday morning, though, had not softened. The conservatives are insisting that their priorities have been laid out for months.

“We’ve been very clear, about since July, what we thought ought to come out of each of the bills in order to make the pre-pandemic spending,” Rep. Keith Self (R-Texas) said. “This is not a new issue. We’ve been working on it since July, and we’ve given them specifics.”

“Nothing’s changed from my standpoint,” Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) said. “We need to pass all 12 of our bills. We need to pass them implementing our priorities from a legislative standpoint, policy standpoint. And we also need to do them at the committed 2022 levels that we agreed to in January and that we all voted for in April, and send it to the Senate, and the Senate should then do its job and avoid a government shutdown.”

In response to a question about the Freedom Caucus requests, McCarthy said: “We have provided those things for the last three months.”

Following a rebellion over the summer from hard-line conservatives fueled by anger about funding caps in a debt limit increase bill that McCarthy negotiated with President Biden, the House GOP marked up spending bills at overall levels lower than those caps. But members of the Freedom Caucus and their allies want even lower numbers.

Meanwhile, the Democratic-controlled Senate has passed spending bills at higher levels than the House — setting up what Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) last month called “a pretty big mess.”

McCarthy’s goal, he said, is to pass all 12 appropriations bills and then get into negotiations with the Senate about spending levels.

McCarthy also warned against a government shutdown, in response to some conservatives downplaying the consequences of one and arguing that Republicans could use it as leverage against Democrats in a spending fight.

“I don’t think it’s productive to have a government shutdown during that time,” McCarthy said. “I don’t know who wins and I don’t know how that — watching the shutdowns before — how is that productive to get the objectives that you want to achieve for the American public?”

Pelosi says McCarthy argument that she changed precedent on impeachment inquiries ‘hogwash’
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) argument that she changed the precedent on impeachment inquiries is “hogwash.”

“That’s hogwash. I mean, it’s ridiculous, and I don’t know why the press keeps repeating it,” Pelosi said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” when asked about McCarthy’s claim. “The fact is, we said we were going to assign my … committee chairs, six of them to develop the facts, because you have act upon the facts.”

“We had a couple of weeks of doing that [acting upon the facts], a few weeks of doing that. Three or four weeks, we then prepared to bring the bill to the floor,” she continued, “They’ve had eight months of investigation, come up with nothing.”

McCarthy announced earlier this week he was moving to launch an official impeachment inquiry into President Biden without a vote on the House floor. His move has received some criticism of hypocrisy, after he pushed back against Pelosi launching an impeachment inquiry of former President Trump in the same manner in 2019.

When asked Tuesday if he was being hypocritical, McCarthy said: “I’m not, because she changed the precedent.”
Pelosi argued that House Republicans can’t blame their “impulsive” decision on her.

“Now, they’re trying to say, ‘Well we’re not going to have a vote because Nancy didn’t have a vote the first day. No, we had a vote, we were in preparation for a vote. … This is a big deal – an impeachment,” she said. “You have to do it with care and not on impulse, and until we had the case ready, that’s when we went forward.”

“Don’t blame it on me. … Take responsibility for what you are doing there and don’t misrepresent the care that we took, the respect that we had for the institution, to go forward in a way that really addressed the high crimes and misdemeanors of Donald Trump,” the California Democrat argued.

House Republicans have embarked on a widespread investigation into Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, looking into his time on the board of a Ukrainian energy company while his father was vice president.

The House Oversight and Accountability Committee’s investigation has not found that Biden directly financially benefited from his son’s business dealings or proved that he made any policy decisions because of them.

We can see what they are doing, it's clear as day. They have been "investigating", if one can call it that for 8 months and have nothing to show for it but have decided to push on due to threats to McCarthy's speakership position by Gaetz.

I don't know where this is all heading but it certainly has the feel of another looney tunes trip down the rabbit hole by the MAGA contingent.

I am bemused by the durability of their folly. At some point, doesn’t all this have to backfire on them in grand style?

doesn’t it?

does it?

Are they gaining votes and persuading people with this shit? Maybe confusing some. They are just trying to feed red meat to the base and appease Trump who wants to see Biden impeached because he was and to muddy the waters. Donald is squirming mightily on the hook and freaking out as he is overwhelmed by the US constitution, criminal cases and civil suits, perhaps another bankruptcy before the put him away in federal housing. The republicans have noting, even Hunter's woes amount to a fine or the charges dismissed because of all the shit he's been through over mere misdemeanors. One charge is unconstitutional because of a recent SCOTUS ruling.

"And besides, I never inhaled."

Video shows Boebert vaping after blaming smoke on fog machine
New video surfaced Thursday showing Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) vaping indoors at a concert and being disruptive before she was escorted out of a performance of the musical “Beetlejuice” on Sunday night.

The video, obtained by 9News.com, appears to contradict a statement from Boebert’s office after the incident denying that she had been vaping indoors.

The video shows Boebert leaning down to grab an object from her handbag under her seat. She then brings the object to her mouth and is seen blowing smoke from it while other attendees around her try to find their seats.

A woman sitting behind her is seen speaking to her during the incident. The woman, who is pregnant, told The Denver Post that she asked Boebert to stop vaping, and that the lawmaker refused.

Boebert was then also seen taking flash photos during the performance before security approached her and asked her to leave.
Boebert’s campaign manager, Drew Sexton, confirmed in a statement to The Hill on Wednesday that Boebert was escorted out of the theater Sunday, but he denied claims the congresswoman was vaping.

Sexton told The Hill that the congresswoman denied vaping but that she admitted she took a photo during the performance and was not aware that photos were not allowed.

“I can confirm the stunning and salacious rumors: in her personal time, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is indeed a supporter of the performing arts (gasp!) and, to the dismay of a select few, enthusiastically enjoyed a weekend performance of ‘Beetlejuice,’” Sexton wrote in the statement.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Boebert said Tuesday evening, “It’s true, I did thoroughly enjoy the AMAZING Beetlejuice at the Buell Theatre and I plead guilty to laughing and singing too loud!”

The Hill has reached out to Boebert’s campaign for comment on the new video.
According to an incident report obtained by The Denver Post, the two patrons were warned during intermission to stop certain behavior after three audience members complained.

The report said the patrons were escorted out after security received another complaint “about the patrons being loud and at the time [they] were recording.”

It's to keep it in the news cycle. Keep repeating the lies and maybes, and don't forget all the incendiary buzz words, just for their flock.

Mitch knew too, but choose not to do anything, he let J6 happen too, he had the power to prevent it with other republican congressional leaders. They knew many in their party were in on the plot and how they would vote, perhaps not after the insurrection when they voted for treason though. Mitt spells out what we already really knew. There were crimes committed by government officials in impeding the response to J6 too and clearing the capitol and there were more than Trump involved in those crimes. If the democrats win in 24 a special independent counsel with broad powers and public hearings is needed along with congressional hearings to get to the very bottom of the plot to destroy the US constitution.

J6 was an inside job, inside the halls of congress and inside the administration with public officials impeding the response and corrupt congressional votes providing the opportunity and rationale for the insurrection. Jack has a lot of work left to do IMO and he should be busy for years with rats squealing for reduced sentences or outright deals and one rat will lead to another.

‘Repugnant’: McConnell blasted for ignoring Romney’s Jan. 6 warning calling Trump the 'instigator'

Mitt Romney allegedly received no response from McConnell after Romney alerted McConnell to security concerns ahead of Jan. 6. "Historically he will be remembered as a repugnant figure,” Steve Schmidt, former strategist for George W. Bush, John McCain and Arnold Schwarzenegger, tells Joy Reid.

Yep Donald Trump, man of the people, a guy who will stand up for working folks and against those corporate elites and dark powerful interests!

We don't need no stink'n union! The company takes care of us just fine, Elon is a prince of an employer ,our future is safe with the rich, they really care, like Donald!

Joe is doing just fine with China, Ukraine too and for a bargain price, you do like a good deal Donald, don't you? I mean our NATO allies are sure pulling their weight and some are downright enthusiastic. Joe is doing more to fuck over China and make them walk straight that Trump could imagine, and he can even find the place on a map and ring it with allies. No sanctions to fuck over the Midwest farmers who are still stupid enough to vote for a guy who screwed them. Now with the war in Ukraine, a global food shortage and grocery greedflation at home, American farmers should be cleaning up and thanking Joe instead of sucking a criminal's ass

I thought Trump did such a good deal with Nafta 2.0 that they will be looking for workers.
