Did he resign only from the speakership? That would mean he is still a MP.
The speaker in parliament just keeps order and does not lead a faction or determine what gets voted on etc. He/she is non partisan or suppose to be, like a judge using the rule book of parliament, like a moderator here.

Seeing that Helmut Oberlander was WIDELY reported to be the last Nazi that was in Canada, and he is now dead, I can understand how the house speaker made this error. Yes it’s embarrassing, but unless he has made other comments that I haven’t seen that indicates this was anything other than an honest mistake, then removing him is extreme. If he feels that he should step down, I’m good with that.

Why hasn’t that Nazi been deported?

I prefer to judge a person’s character on their ability to admit when they are wrong, especially when it appears they had the best intentions. The alternative is no one ever admitting they were wrong because,, what’s the point? That sure sounds like the MAGA movement. No thanks, doesn’t look awesome to me.
My post above is one sided and angry, but that isn't the whole story as far as my opinion is concerned. So, if I can clarify, I do realize that the Ukrainians were under Stalin's boot for years and people will do things during war that isn't particularly part of their real constitution or character. I did grow up in Germany and have a good perspective on how they felt after the war and the truth of what happened.

I'm actually more pissed off that this wasn't properly vetted, reports on the last Nazi or not. The evening before I posted, I said this to my daughter who asked me what I thought. She was actually surprised at the seemingly softer stance I would normally take when it comes to this. Especially if this Ukrainian fellow did regret what he was part of at the time. I hold no grudge towards the person fighting for his country in the heat of the shit storm. My own family probably would have taken the same course if we were in Ukraine at the time. There's a lot of gray area here.

I don't recall taking the PM to task on the Nazi embarrassment, but of course I believe that ANY leader is responsible for the actions of his team. Like you and me (derp), the leader can't keep his stupid ass mouth shut sometimes, but we're stoners and he is a world leader (threw up typing that compliment). And like, my kids woulda known to look into this dude. Great way to help Putin paint a zelensky nazi portrait, too. Foreign diplomats are starting to feel they are gonna get into a Jerry Springer episode if they come here. Cold shoulder from allies this winter boys...More sucking up to China, election interference? Chinese gov't police stations in Canada harrassing Canadian citizens? Oh, we got bigger problems, right? Your man is an incompetent boob at best, in 8 years this country has fallen apart and our international rep has suffered likewise. Time for a change and you know it. Everybody does, now.

I just want to clarify that my comments about judging character were about Anthony Rota, not towards anyone that was/is a Nazi. It's not for me to judge if that person(Nazi) warrants forgiveness or how harsh he deserves to be punished. I don't know anything about him so I can't speak to that. I don't know what I would have done if I was in his position; I'd like to believe that I would have acted in a particular way, but that's easy to think when I've never come close to experiencing anything like that. I hear what you're saying and can't disagree.

It appears that Mr. Rota did understand that the only way he could prove that he was worthy of being the speaker was to step down. It was an embarrassing moment, but he proved he was honorable.

Call me crazy, but when the leader of the country is being attacked vociferously by the leadership of Russia, China, and India; he's doing something right. Anyone that is willing to believe that Zelensky is a Nazi because of what happened was going to believe anything Russia says anyway. I personally don't give a rats ass what any of those people believe - fuck'em.

After briefing on intel, Singh says 'clear evidence' India involved in B.C. killing
Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he received an intelligence briefing about allegations that the Indian government could be behind the killing of a Sikh leader in British Columbia.

Singh says after learning more information, he can "confirm" that "clear evidence" of India's involvement exists.

He received the briefing days after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the House of Commons about "credible allegations," which India has denied amid escalating tensions between the two countries.

Singh told reporters today that he was able to request the briefing because of the security clearance he obtained in order to review foreign-interference materials prepared by former special rapporteur David Johnston.

He says Trudeau told him and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre about the allegations before sharing them publicly.

He got a briefing from Trudeau's national security adviser, Jody Thomas, three days later.

Does the fascism seem familiar? Catching murders red-handed is embarrassing, I guess. Another act of stochastic terrorism at best and government encouraged and backed at worst. The Russians and Chinese do shit like this too and India just got a diplomatic kick in the nuts after not responding to lawful requests.

Their next move is to try and buy PeePee and whatever other Tories are for sale.

Cyberattacks hit military, Parliament websites as India-based group targets Canada

The federal government is dealing with cyberattacks this week and a hacker group in India claims it has caused chaos in Ottawa — but Canada's signals intelligence agency says the 'nuisance' attacks likely haven't put private information at risk.

Justin you are right about native Canadians, but YOU had better start listening to Canadians about the housing shortage and food inflation, that affects native Canadians too, as well as the rest of us. If they don't get a handle on it, we will have a tory government and the same problems as Americans. Already tory provinces are attacking the LBGTQ community and threatening to use the notwithstanding clause in the constitution over energy policy and human rights.

Start addressing the problems of the majority of Canadians, natives included, and they have had a housing crisis longer than the rest of us, platitudes won't do, policies will.

The house elected the speaker so no apology necessary, its his house.

The Speaker is elected by a secret ranked-ballot, meaning MPs list the candidates in order of preference. If nobody wins on the first ballot, the last-place candidate is dropped and their votes are redistributed until someone claims a majority.

Electing a Speaker by secret ballot is a relatively new process. Up until the mid-1980s, the Speaker was nominated by the prime minister and MPs simply gave a rubber-stamp approval.

The first election by secret ballot took place on Sept. 30, 1986 — almost exactly 37 years before the day that MPs will elect a new Speaker to replace Rota. Ironically, the Speaker who was replaced on that occasion was also the last before Rota to step down mid-session.

Where should he cut spending in order to boost housing?

I'm not an expert on housing policy, but the government did it before and perhaps they can do it again, it is a problem that must be addressed, and it is one of the factors in their decline at the polls. I can assure you of one thing PeePee and the Tories won't address it with tax cuts for the rich, we can always cut taxes for the rich, but if we raise them and off to America they go with the cash. Until American fiscal policy changes ours is in a vice with about the same wealth distribution as the Americans and wealth distribution is the root of the problem.

Quick facts
  • Social media services must register; however, users do not.
  • Online services that offer podcasts must register; however, individuals who use social media to share podcasts do not.
  • Online services that only provide video game services or audiobooks do not have to register.
  • A list of registered services will be published on the CRTC’s website.

So services like Spotify will have to register. Jordan Peterson is still free to spew his hatred, but it will still trigger the Freedumb carny though. I hope people look into the people spreading this bullshit before swallowing it, don't get mislead by a racist POS like Keean Bexte.
