Well i went too dicks sporting goods yesterday and looked at their crap, i dont want him too have one that shoots metal bbs and or pellets,

I was looking at a pistol and a rifle that shoot .6mm yellow plastic bbs, are these gonna break with a few days worth of play? And something my 12 year old should have?

youtube response ftw.

I would try and stay clear of airsoft, its all a bit "real". Go for paintball, way more fun.

Now realising hes 12, in all honesty id just say no. It always unnerves me seeing young kids running around with guns.

i own a paintball gun, and tht is nothing i want too put in my sons hands rofl...these airsoft guns are only 150-200 feet per second...not enough too break a window or draw blood,

First off how old is your son? I would sooner go airsoft than bb or pellet for a first gun! They still hurt if you get shot, but wont go thru windows etc. We have 3 of my friends airsoft here. A shotgun, pistol, machinegun. they all shoot the same pellets. the shot gun shoots just one pellet as well. These ones seem to be built fairly tough. I'm sure there are low end and high end airsoft guns just like anything else.

Those airsoft guns sting like fuck, but unless you get shot in the eye or something it's not gonna do real damage. Me and my little brother used to have quick draw duels with them back when we were younger. We were at like, 4 feet apart, shooting each other and we're both fine. They do look a little too realistic though.

Get him the OG Red Ryder BB gun, it's $30 at walmart. Your son is old enough to have one just show him to respect it, I was already shooting a 12g at age 12.

Yep in hindsight guns are not realy toys...

I grew up in a diffirent time. And my airgun was an extention of my body.
Killed a lot of birds and thing. Today I have a hard time useing insecticide.
I finaly grew a heart.

If he is deadset, buy him one that shoots plastic balls yeah... I settled for batleships when I realy wanted an atari...

If you do get him a gun, even one that shoots plastic, you need to set some firm rules and repurcusions to them not being followed.
I have enough scars from my, and my cousin's airgun...(we used to play cowboys and crooks :O), could easily have been an eye... (well so could the dart in my foot when we threw those in the air at each other and you had to duck... got a helluva hiding that night)

I can at least say the 40-50$ "mall special" airsoft holds up fairly well. They managed to last through my roomies and I shooting the stupid plastic bb's everywhere

It never dented the walls, broke glass, but would hurt like fuck if hit and those bb's got everywhere.

But yeah, its not really a toy.. I'd suggest looking into more local airsoft clubs, and seeing if he could maybe play in a safe environment as.. well they only hurt when they hit bare skin in my opinion.

Hard to say. In some ways a real bb gun might be better to teach the responibility with cause the airsoft and paintball are less dangerous they are more tempting to shoot at friends or random ppl. With a bb or pellet gun most wouldnt dare fool around that way. We did but most wouldn't. We had full snowsuits on with helmets and shield for our eyes that's the scary part a pellet in the eye.

I would say get him one if he is responsible, but only let him use it under your supervision. If he is anything like I was when I was 12 all hell will break loose if you let him take it without supervision. We had CO2 pellet guns that looked like handguns. What were our parents thinking?
