I'm gonna miss the USDA.....

The national milk supply must be tested for bird flu under a federal order announced Friday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Entities handling raw milk, such as bulk milk transporters or dairy processors, must collect and share samples with the USDA upon request.

Yes you are! I’m reading daily recalls of food stuff here. Just recalled my favourite salad mix :o!

The testing is just in large milk collection tanks for now. When they find bird flu, they will test the individual farms that had milk in that location. It's a start.

Now with numerous cases among Dairy farm workers,we have the first serious case requiring hospitalization and this patient has exhibited several mutations. While epidemiologists aren't as concerned about H5N1 mutating on its own into a efficient spreader among humans, they ARE most worried about a dual infection scenario now that it's flu season. That is a person infected w/ bird flu becomes infected w/the current flu circulating in this winter's flu season simultaneously, giving the bird influenza a golden mutation opportunity. That scenario in combination w/the incoming Adm. whose pandemic performance was anything but efficient, not to mention it being bolstered by the anti-vax crusader RFK jr. is cause for serious concern,a piggy back pandemic on the relative heels of Covid would be a nightmare of epic proportions.

Yep. I heard on the Newshour that the changes made it easier to attach itself to our airways. Making the spread easier if we do go live.
Yeah it's all CONCERNING,after watching the slow burn of Covid, the not to worries, the no masks required, the no risk if not elderly, blow up into NYC at a standstill w/only ambulance sirens breaking the eerie silence, and freezer containers as morgues stockpiled outside of overburdened hospitals. Hearing virtually the same lines now brings me no comfort while the similarities are worrisome to say the least.

Now, cats are being infected from food.

This summer we had a pair of eastern blue birds nesting in a box. I looked and saw the female laying in the yard about ten feet from the nesting box.
Took a couple of pictures, and called my state DNR. They advise me to fill out a form online. Filled out the form and never heard them.
Called a couple of times and they were not interested.

She had no damage. No signs of being attacked. It looked like she just fell out of the sky.
I cleaned the box with bleach and hung it back up.

Raw milk is becoming a hot topic here. People have forgotten that milk is pasteurized for a reason.

The ONLY thing I've heard about raw milk is that it contains bacterias that are beneficial to combating PM/Botrytis on plants when diluted w/water and sprayed, never tried it,and surely wouldn't mess w/it now and NEVER even considered consuming it even before H1N5 became newsworthy as FKH noted milk IS pasteurized for a reason.

One thing different, from Covid, we have a vaccine and 3 million doses of it stockpiled. Hopefully that could help.

Hi, Curious,my fav. RIU mod.,if the bird flu can kill big cats at zoo's in CA and mutates w/common influenza it could be pretty brutal. Just got my Covid/Flu piggybacked 2 wks ago. There have been yrs. where the flu vaccine is only 33% effective depending on it's match to the strain it's developed against (I believe it's based upon whatever happens in Australia as the new flu season begins there) doesn't mutate too much. Then again I defer to you on medical issues:D
