I Still Cant Find The Correct Lights...

Hi. Newbie here. I joined a while ago and asked for info about which lights to get for my tent, which is:

Grow Tent Large 120 X 240 X 200cm Silver Mylar Indoor Hydroponics Bud Grow Box Growing Tent 2.4 x 1.2 x 2 Metre

I am completely bamboozled with tons of differing replies, none of which are the same. I wanted 8 plants eventually but will start with 2 as a beginner. My budget is quite small so advice please?

Thankyou

It would help to state you budget upfront.
You tend to get different answers when asking for opinions on the internet.

4x8ft / 120cm x 240cm

If you're in a cold climate
Each half needs 600w hps (bit weak) - 1000w hps (with air cooled hoods)
Or 630w CMH.

If your in an average to warm climate.

600w full spectrum LED bar light per half of that space.
You can Google that exact line and it will bring up many options with a wide variety on price.

But they must be actually 600w each, power consumption.

You didn't specify what type of light you wanted so I've mentioned them based on your climate.

Just be aware that there are still LED manufacturers who like to dazzle you with bullshit and fake numbers.
Most are transparent these days, but there's still dodgy old tech out there, especially on amazon.

So run anything you find past us on here

Just make sure its got the ballast included.

It's not from bargains bargains on eBay is it?
If it is, it's the light without the ballast.
There's a few sellers doing the same and it says in the full description.

There's a grow shop selling the same light for £174 with or without the ballast. Free delivery I believe.

It looks like there must be an overstock situation or a middleman has gone bust because that particular light has been reduced everywhere, maybe there's a new version out or something.

If you need the link just shout.

Yes it is. I just checked.

Silly question?? Does ballast stop it from falling over? (or something)?

I WOULD like the link please if you believe this seller is trustworthy. Also, is it the right size for my tent?

Thankyou.

I will be asking about filters etc next!

Yeah it's "ballast" not about weight it's about managing the power you ain't the first I've seen ask that either

That seller also sells the same light With a ballast for £175.
The ballast powers the light. It works a bit like an led driver does.

I got a similar light from swiftair in September with ballast for ~ £140
The 140 quid light..
2508 diodes total
2488 whites
20 reds, probably 660nm
Looks like 4000K spectrum plus added reds.

Some readings on 600 Watt HPS Ballast.
660 Watt setting = 715 wall watts
600 Watt setting = 661 wall watts
400 Watt setting = 508 wall watts
250 Watt setting = 344 wall watts

Decent par readings for no name leds. I can't upload the par map at the moment?
I do like a bargain.
Good luck!

I have a 250 Watt HPS digital Ballast lying in the garage so checked it out and it works as well.
270 wall watts on kilowatt meter.
About 500 in the centre at 12" - 300mm away.

PAR map 300mm - 1ft away in an open space. No reflective walls.
Big numbers are it on full blast if I remember

Hope that helps

If my conversion from the caveman measurements to the civilized measurements are correct, I’d say you are looking for 1,600W to cover your space?

Once I learned I could build something better than I could buy I began building everything I could. I’ve attached a photograph of a small LED luminaire that was recently built by me. At 100W the luminaire is achieving 1,000 ppfd @ 10” in-center.

If you feel like being creative I would be glad to help run some calculations to provide at least two simple solutions and cost evaluation of each option.

Cheers, mate!

With regards to this being the same light.

I was going to say yes but this says the specs are improved. Will highlight in a moment

Edit..

Now with Improved 3.2 μmol Performance!
If you’re looking to upgrade to LED technology and you’re on a tight budget, then the Omega Black 720w LED is the best option available. it’s half the price of comparable units, making it truly incredible value-for-money. Better yet, this is a new and improved model with even better performance. The Omega Black now delivers a whopping 3.2 µmol per watt and a PPF of 2304 µmol per second.

That's from the link above.

Which if it's correct and not a mistake it's significantly higher output and efficiency.

I would ask them to be sure and as about the free delivery, though it says free delivery on over £100 , sometimes oversized items might not apply.

Also, this SAME model is £259

Massive 2.7umol/j Efficacy
Free Next Day UK Delivery
Ultra High Intensity 1950 umol/s PPF output.

Though that's good, it's a lot less than the supposed improved one that costs less.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is why there's a lot of Ebay sellers knocking them out cheap, if there's a new version.

Which is why I say double check with the growshop I linked if their stats are correct and not a mistake.
These things do happen with websites sometimes.

If it's not a mistake it's a lot of light for the money

Edit, clearly shows on the bargains bargains eBay page that thie light for 175 with ballast is the one that's 3.2umols.
