you go to the breaker box, turn the power off, and swap the double pole breaker with two single pole breakers, and replace the recepticle with a 120v outlet. you can then run a new line, and will have two 120v lines opposed to one 240v line.

he,s right, this is the only way....the only safe way....trust me, im an electrician, do as said above or dont do....that simple....good luck....
*she* but thanks for clearing the air :).

you should prob read more of the thread dude
I read the whole thread , and the only smart thing to do is switch the 50 amp double pole with 2 20 amp single poles ......either that or as was mentioned, use the stove line for a 50 amp sub, but since he doesnt have acsess to the main panel, and is not experienced, It woulnt be a wise choice because he would have to do it live.....so really he's screwed.... he needs to move out of his mothers house and get his own place so he has access to a panel box....lol.....

gt, seeing as you know next to nothing of electricity and can't shut the breaker off, please have a friend stand near you while you wire this so he can kick you away when you get electrocuted. Might wanna have an ambulance on standby also. Getting shocked by 240 is no joke, it can break bones and crush vertabra, I saw it happen to a guy right in front of me. Fucked up his back big time.

Call a local electrician and see what he'd charge to build you a sub panel that plugs in. I'd say that would be smartest bet.
