how do i connect 120volt items in 240 outlet?

I read the whole thread , and the only smart thing to do is switch the 50 amp double pole with 2 20 amp single poles ......either that or as was mentioned, use the stove line for a 50 amp sub, but since he doesnt have acsess to the main panel, and is not experienced, It woulnt be a wise choice because he would have to do it live.....so really he's screwed.... he needs to move out of his mothers house and get his own place so he has access to a panel box....lol.....
