If anyone is growing with CFL's and is worried about growth...

I looked into it. The Guys name is MajoR_TokE. He has a Fantastic grow journal that uses nothing but CFL's. He truely has amazed me.

I only use CFL's for my veg stage. Especially during the summer months.

Does anyone else find it irritating how FilthyFletch keeps screwing up the cfl threads with arguments about hps vrs. cfl? We get the point.

The 4 foot florescent shop lights actually out grow all cfl lights except the big 18 inch 250 watt (actual watt not those spiral crap bulbs).
Rubbish.

Cfls cost more in the long run as you need so many.
Rubbish.

They heat up faster then 400 watt hps
Rubbish.

and are bigger fire hazard
Rubbish.

and give crappy results
Rubbish.

I have switched to home built aeroponics setup.I did my last grow as a journel.I grow 28 plants in the system room is 8 ft by 8 ft by 8 feet tall.I was using 3 400 watt hps lights but went with 2 600 watt digitals on a light mover with a homemade cross bar to move both lights with 1 mover.I use co2 tank injection.Pulled little over 98 oz wet from last grow at 5 week flower 10 days veg
You'll lose 70-80% of your wet weight during drying and another 10% during curing.

So that gives you a yield of -

98 x 28 2744 grams x 70% = 1920-2744 = 823 and 2195 - 2744 = 549.

823 /1200 = 0.68 grams per watt
549 / 1200 = 0.45 grams per watt

That's not a very good return from 2 x 600 digital ballasts which output more lumens per watt than any other HID lighting system.

The yields you're getting are not much better than many people get with the CFL's and fluorescents you deride so much.

Your yields are pathetic for the lights you're using.

babygro,i dont see how it is pathetic, alot of people would take that yield, and the numbers you throw out are your estimates of dry weight not the facts.

Of course they're estimates - but I can assure you, I've been generous in my estimation of his dry weight yield.

Anyone who knows what they're doing should be getting 1 gram + per watt of lighting used, particularly if you're using the most lumens per watt HID light you can get.

Look at my signature - see that 0.6g per watt of lighting? That was achieved with 64w of CFL's, the same CFL's this guy continually and persistently bashes as being useless.

He's not doing any better with his 2 x 600w digital ballasts, so he can hardly claim CFL's are uselss or that HIDs give you bettter yields.

Get my point?

get a 42w bulb, your plants will love you.

My set up had only 2 26w CFL's and as soon as i added a 42w CFL, my plant grew by the hour at first! holy impressive!

Just a little advice for the CFL grower,
Pat
So when you first noticed this growth by the hour, did it get taller? or grow like 6 new nodes and stay pretty well the same height?

I've completed one CFL grow and am mere weeks away from another complete CFL grow. My next flowering run, starting on Sept 1 will be under a 400watt HPS. I won't be able to really compare results as past grows were in soil and now I've moved to DWC veg and RDWC on my next flowering.

I will offer a few bits of advice for the CFL grower and new grower using CFL's.
1. Start with good soil. Use plenty of perlite and/or vermiculite. Drainage is very important.
2. Don't waste your money on anything less than the 42 watt CFLs; you'll only be replacing them when you realize you need more lumen. I personally veg under 100 watt CFL lights and get exceptional results. I'll provide recent pics on request.
3. LST your plants, or SCROG 'em. CFLs don't have very deep penetration and will give you very small very fluffy shit buds down low on the plant. My current plants are damn near horizontal and all the bud sites are thick and chunky.
4. Spend some money on some good nutrients. I'm using GH hydro nutes on my girls in flower and I'm seeing nice results.

I am looking at getting at least 2 z's off my 1 plant 9 light cfl grow. I will be harvesting within 10 days and I gurantee 2 z's easy. Soil 3/4 miracle grow, 1/4 basic soil. I used miracle grow plant food and miracle grow flowering food. 10 times or so I used mollases during the 2nd half of flowering and I always used a moisture tester for watering. This grow was my 2nd attempt and I think I did FANTASTIC. My 2 oz's is well worth the payofff. I plan on drying & curing the right way and take about 1 month to do that. Since I can only smoke 1 or 2 bowls a week (tested all the time at work). The 1-2 z's I harvest will last me almost a year. During my next grow I will invest in a 400 watt HPS and grow 4-5 plants with it.

If you read, listen and take all the advice on this site, you can do it. I am proof. I'll have pictures later this week for you.

You would have harvested more if you weren't a steelers fan.

Anyone like how dumb asses make up fake names join the same day they make thier first statement but refer to posts that have been over months lol.The grow I spoke of last was using 400 watt hps lights with 4 grows on them..I started 28 plants lost total of 5 due to a molasses expirement so gave me 23 plants. The first harvest was at 98 oz wet then 2 weeks later the under harvest yieled 21 more wet oz.Thats 119 oz wet in 7 weeks total flower and 8 weeks from the day 1 grow.Even at that point thats better then any cfl grow I have seen on here yet. That just over 5 oz per plant wet hmmm seems pretty crappy to me lol.So on a first grow on a new designed system with old hps bulbs and stress form the molasses incident.Im pretty happy with around 3 lbs of dried buds and 3 ozs of hash in under 8 weeks day 1 to final finish.I have yet to see your lbs from you last cfl grow.My point on the cfls is there are dummies telling these new growers to go to walmart and buy 20 24 watt cfls and go grow.CFLs are great to replace your regular house bulbs to drop your electricity costs to make up for an hps light.People who are doing these first cfls grows also never seem to be told of the added time low light adds to grows. If your willing to buy 20 bulbs at $7 a piece for the veg and even more for the flower cycle your paying more then a single new 400 or 600 watt light setup.FDD can also vouch for the heat that many cfls add to a small grow area. A piece of $8 glass stops most heat from a 400 watt hps setup but didnt see anyone bring that up so I added it.Like I said a cfl grow with the correct large 200-250 watt grow cfls is ok.To prove a point I just purchased 4 220 watt cfl bulbs thats actual 220 watt bulbs 18 inches long self ballast.I will use these against a set of 5 24 watt cfls that everyone is trying to use and against 1 400 watt hps.At the end of 10 days I will post the pictures and show the difference in all 3 to show the point I was making about little cfls being bottom feeding grow light setups.Even T-5 tubes or led will grow much better...Now Baby you say rubbish to 25 cfl light run through 25 extension cords draped over homemade cardboard reflectors isnt a fire hazard?? That just makes you an idiot as guess what thats a fire hazard as I see most noobs using the cheap walmart plug strips which are not made for that much draw on so many differnt lines for that constant power usage...So I have explained and prooved my points now show me you lbs from your cfl grow in under 8 weeks start of day 1 til last cut bud and we might have something.Tell me every post that has someone saying "How do I cool my grow area with my cfls as its getting over 90" is a liar since you know thier lying to pisss you off and finally find me 1 electrition who will tell me an overloaded powerstrip with extension cords running to a cardboard reflector is safe and not a fire waiting to happen.soooo Now get me like smoker says.....
