I'd rather create my own, make my home made cooking as opposed to buying the pre-made shit in bottles or bags. Although it's easy to drop a couple hundred at the local Nursey, as a base to start a build up. To have 40 bags of shit send via FedX get's up there in cost.

I compost old plant matter (leaves and stalks) with the old soil in my worm boxes, a few weeks later fresh compost.

I use a 55 gal drum and mix in bout half compost, 1/4 peat moss (makes for airy soil) 1/4 fresh potting soil, cheapest i can find.

Been using this technique for all potted plants and its been working great. And i dont spend a fortune for fresh potting soil.

i'd also like to add, i compost my plant matter that sheds through the grow. i am legal medical, but just throwing marijuana leaves in the trash is fuckin ridiculous. next thing you know i gotta hassle wit d pigs, or im getting robbed, for my medicine. ridiculous world we live in.

Peat Moss is anti-microbial. Your Plant's Immunity system suffers, stress, all that shit. If you want referals, I'll see if I can find it. I ordered high dollar peat, then I heard about the facts. I'm learning.

That's why you use sphagnum moss instead of peat.

Too bad it's hard to find in any form other than hobbyist flower-setting stuff.

Hey dudes,

I'm goin' to have ~50gal of used promix (with chem fertilizer salts). I'm tryin' to figure out the best ways to wash it before I add in organic goodies.

So far at my disposal I have an "unemployed" screen door, and a couple garbage cans prop up the door up. I might just spread out an amount of the promix on the door, and rinse with tap water (doh?).

Anyone have better ideas for washing out the salt?

I had planned on adding in some perlite, worm castings, and dolomite to make a base mix, and then in the goodies for Bongaloid's guano mix (see below).

"Use all these items combined with one gallon of soil mix.
1/3C hi N Guano (Mexican Bat Guano)
1/2C hi P Guano (Jamaican or Indonesian Bat Guano)
1TBS Jersey Greensand
1TBS Kelp Meal "

And water with bubbled tap + worm castings + molasses. Seems easy, and the garden store near me has a buncha cool new shit (literally).

Is the Garrett Juice just a compost tea with basic components and apple vinegar and/or citrus oil? I google'd the term and I see home-made recipes and branded stuff for sale.

Why waste good money on soil? You can make better soil then you can buy. My soil is full of organic goodies and it's still great soil even when it's been used, maybe even better for having been through the cycle of life.

Yes, Mr. Baker, you found the right Garrett Juice formula. There is the original, then better, seweed added, then some for pest. Don't get the pest one mixed up with the feeding formula... (Orange Oil for roots would be a bad thing.)
