So do you just really do this in the vegging stage? - i could have access to sunlight as its grown in my bedroom and summer is on its way!!!

I just got done growing a low yielder with a 150w HPS and I'm only expecting to get about 7 grams. My HPS made the nug really dense so that is good news, but for an indica you should expect 7-14 grams dry and with a sativa something around 10-20 grams. Hopefully you can keep a few of them going as females and get around 2-3 ounces in the end. Don't forget to let them flower for long as possible and ripen up to maximize thc and weight. The veg period also has a lot to do with yield. I only vegged my indica strain for 3 weeks and she was real small to begin with. If you have some big girls and throw them into flower, you'll be see'n a lot more bud growth.

I don't believe that is true. Of course it will change the yield, but not that much. I've seen several grow where people had started flowering at only 5-6 inches and get a little more than an oz per plant (might be even more near 2 oz than 1 oz).
Of course having a bigger plant before going into flowering is gonna give you bigger buds, but bigger buds doesn't mean bigger yields. A bushy plant will have small nugs, but will have several of them and they will be really dense. Bigger plants will normally have less dense nugs, and overall more "popcorn" like buds.
With CFL, I would try to flower between 7-10 inches if the plant seems healthy, especially if the height is a problem. The trick with CFL is to have a lot of light coverage to prevent stretching. Airflow is quite important, and a good watering technique is essential.
With those 3 things, you're sure to get good results.
BTW, go grab some more bulbs in packs, like 26 watters. Put them around your plants so they have a good light coverage. Trust me on this, it's gonna make things so much better.

some good comments guys - im just hoping for the best with the yield for now, i am worried about having a possible few hermies in there now. I didnt cut that one down just yet - im half tempted to try the rubber cement thing on the sacs and see what happens. I have two white widows in there flowering up nicely and i suspect that two out of the three big bang may be hermies...
Is this quite a common problem for people growing with feminised seeds - what do you usually do - is there no other way around it than to just kill them?
I know the pictures didnt come out great and now im worried i might only be left with two or 3 plants making it to flowering out of the 5 and an even lower yield as a result...

you can rip off male flowers before they start to turn yellow and open because the real problem is,nt them being there but them pollenating your plants. sometimes you will only get a few anyway. i myself have just discovered 3 of my 5 are hermies and i have been ripping off the male flowers. mine however are in a bad way because i cant get to my plants everyday i have stumbled upon the hermie situation a bit late and will definately have some seed but cant afford to pull them as they are 4 weeks flowering and had a 6 week veg so i have already put a lot of time and money in.

Did I miss where the person asking the question said they are in the Southern Hemisphere?
If not then a window that faces North is not a good choice. The sun rises in the East and sets in the West so an Eastern facing window would be good for most of the morning and a Southern facing window would be good for late morning and early afternoon and a West facing window would be good for afternoon.
If he is in the Southern Hemisphere the same would apply but with a North facing window for late morning/early afternoon.
In the northern Hemisphere a North facing window gets the least amount of direct sunlight of any.
If he is in the Northern Hemisphere and has windows that face Solar South one might work for the whole day, if he is far enough North.
