Temp problems in room. 2x1000 watters and heat at 95 degrees! Help!

Hi all,

Just turned my other light on in my room yesterday. Temps with my one 1000 watt on were at a steady 84 degrees F. Now, however, they are much higher. I turned on the second light and now the temps are at 95 degrees F!

Here is a description of the room and set up of the lights.
The room is 12ftx12ftx8ft high spare bedroom. Room is connected to a stairwell that leads to the attic. Have 2x1000 watt lights in air cooled hoods by hydrofarm. Air is being sucked out of the room through the lights like so: Light---->ducting--->Light--->ducting--->680 cfm ostertag inline fan---> ducting that goes through a cut hole in the door and up into the attic. Quick question, will the fan cool the lights better if i seal off the light furthest away from the fan so it is strictly just sucking air off the bulb?or should i leave it unsealed so it also is sucking hot air out of the room and exhausting it into the attic?

I have AC in the room as in comes out the ceiling and thermostat is set at 68 all day but doesnt seem to help.

I also have a 25" blower fan i got at home depot with 1100 cfm which is just blowing in the room to try to move air around a bit to cool it down. Its simply in the corner. Also an oscillating fan to help promote strong stem growth.

I couldnt find the exact link but here is one that looks like it except its 25"(keep in mind it moves 1100 cfm or 2300 cfm with its two settings):

Does anyone have any ideas. I thought about getting an ac unit but cant because the windows in the room aren't compatible for one, not even one of the portable ones with an exhaust hose. Could i buy one of those and put the exhaust hose through a hold in the door that leads to the attic, or would it need cool outside air in order work?

I have no idea what else to do. I have already put so much money into this set up and I am trying to not have to buy 2 or 3 more expensive fans. If anyone has any suggestions on maybe how to build an exhaust with my 25" fan or any other ideas about the portable ac units i would really appreciate it.

My plants are already showing signs of head stress and need to fix things asap!

Thats the problem.. I dont have one. The room is deisgned to be stealth and the only cold air i have coming in is actually the AC air coming in through the ceiling vent.
The windows are weird and open up from the middle so i cant install a window ac unit. Plus i cant pull air in from the hallway entrance of the room cuz if i do, the room would no longer be stealth if i had to cut a hole in the door.

I have no idea what to do

Okay, I'm not sure about sealing off the last light, but it sounds like it might help. One thing you do know is that you need to drop 10 degrees from your temps. So add up all the things that change the temps and try to get to 85 or lower. What is your outside temps? Hot? If it is a hot day, then it is safe to assume you are at your max heat. A few degrees lower in outside temps will help lower your room a degree or two.

Your a/c is not helping because your thermostat is located elsewhere, which is where your ac is controlled from. But if your a/c is manually on all the time and it still doesn't lower temps, see if you can divert another ac vent into your room. It depends on how much space you're restricted to.

If you added CO2, it won't change temps but you might be able to get away with 95 degrees. But since the room is fairly large, you might be risking pest problems among other things. I let my plants go up to 93 degrees and they do fine. But you are on the borderline at 95 degrees, so you should remove some degrees somehow.

If you have a window in the room, you can buy some plastic sheeting and some pvc pipe. Create a frame surrounding the window, and seal the tent with plastic sheeting. This will basically seal off the window from the room, but allowing enough space inside the tent for fresh outside air. Install a fan or fans inside the tent, and vent the outside air through the plastic tent into your grow area. The fans will push the fresher, cooler air inside the tent into the grow room. And because you are pushing air out of your tent, it will suck air in from the window.

Aside from these ideas, you can always buy a rolling floor type ac unit ($100-$500). But an extra ac unit will only add another $30-50/mo to your electricity bill and in the long run it may not be worth the effort. And one last idea is to downgrade your lights to 400W. But I suppose that's not an option since lights are pricey.

Thanks for your reply. I like the tent idea with the window but i worry people from outside will be able to see the fan or will notice something if the window is open. The room is already coated in panda film to block the light from escaping so i worry about having to open the window..

I have thought about buying a rolling Ac unit. Would I be able to just put the exhaust hose for the AC unit through a hole in the door that leads up into the attic, or does it need to be somewhere where there is cooler air? I have no problem spending the money on the rolling Ac unit as long as it would work and be able to drop the temps by like 10 degrees

You definitely need a fresh air intake.

I'd suggest making an intake in the attic (drill couple of holes whereever you see fit, install a vent on the outside. Connect a tube with a fan and throw the tube end into your grow room.
