Hey Everyone,

I just started my first grow ever. Thanks to everyone on this site for all the help and great ideas.
I received some white widow and white diesel clones. It looks like the white widow has a little head start.

I have the ladies on a 16/8 light schedule.
The table floods for 1 minute 6 times a day.
I slowly lowered the light to 18" over 4 days.
My air temp in 80-83 and the tops of the plants.
My rez temp is 75F.
I am running 1/8 strength Dutch Master Gold with Zone
I added some hydrotron to the flood containers so the roots would have a place to go. It makes the water level too high now. I need to lift the pots up a little.
My rez is starting to smell musty. I need to change it out. How should I clean it? I am going to treat with h2o2 per Al B.'s instructions.

Hey when you take pictures under a yellow light ie. HPS or anything under 4000k adjust the white balance on your camera to its lowest setting or if posible to the same light temp as your grow light. That way we'll be able to see what your plants look like without a yellow haze on top of the pic. ;) Other than that it looks SIC!

Good Morning!
Yesterday I cleaned out the reservoir with a diluted solution of 30% H2O2 17ml per Liter of water. I don't usually use the metric measurements but it is so easy to use in this case. I then mixed my res with 1.7 ml of 30% H2O2 to each Liter of H2O. I waited 30 minuted and then added the Dutch Master Gold at low strength. My starting value for the water was 450 PPM. After I added everything is was 600 PPM. I think this is a good low dose. Dutch Masters says to you at 3/4 strength for high PPM tap water.

Does anyone know if Dutch Master Gold can be used with H2O2? I don't see anything on the bottle like someone said in another thread.

The white diesel clones are a little bit slower to take off. In the last picture you ca see some leaf curl. They are curling down a little. Any ideas?

I'm going for a SOG type grow. I will pick out the best one or two plants to keep as mothers in the next week. I would like to switch them to 12/12 next weekend.

The pics look great...As for cleaning your rez I would not be the best person to ask as I only do DWC with self sufficient buckets so my girls get a fresh change every week. Seems like your water temp is a little high tho my grow room stays at about 79-82 degrees but my water temp never rises about 63 degrees in the matter of a week. Perhaps you should change out your rez for something that is a little more insulated. people who use the thin rubbermaid containers seem to have this problem...go with a heavy duty hard plastic lock box and you'll find the temp stays much lower thus taking longer for bacteria and smelly shit to form. On the same note...ussually the shit that grows in warm water is helpful to a plants growth as long as you dont see too much of a pH adjustment.

I am using the rubbermaid container for sure. What do you mean by heavy duty hard platic lock box. What application are they used for?

Yep, seen those before. I will take some measurements when I come across one.

I just found some white dots on the plants leaves! Are those spider mites? Last picture has the close up of one of the leafs!

Hey aaron,

Congrats on starting your first grow.

I think I can answer a couple questions for ya but first I was wondering why the big deal about cleaning your res? I seldom clean my res. If anything I just wipe it with a damp towel between res changes.

I never disinfected one but what ever floats your boat.

I think you are a bit quick on the watering. I would say water twice a day while they are small. right up to the bottom of the cube. Once you get good roots in the hydroton then raise them so the cube don't get wet (or lower your over flow) and go three or four times a day.

I wouldn't use h202 in your nutrient mix on the first grow. I would only use it if I needed it. I noticed your water temp at 74° if you can keep it at or below 68° you wont need it.

fizzy hairs are good yes but the fact you can see them means they are exposed to light and thats not good. cover them.

If you can, use clean water to mix nutrients. Tap can be a problem.

Once mixed then Ph the water low while they are young. 5.5 to 5.7
with nutrients at 200 or so. Once they kick in go half strength at 6.0 and you will be fine.

Hey I think the one thing you need to remember is that this is a WEED. A flowering beautiful weed. For your first grow try not to go to crazy. Just make sure the pH is good in your waterings and you'll be good. You don't need to do much to get them to grow right.

Nice grow man, gave you some rep for sure too. The hairs on the root are normal, its just that the root looks pretty dry. How often do you water. Did you make those clones yourself? Is that the root starters that are made of bark, or like bark particles? I forget the name, rapid rooter or something like that. Thats the same stuff i have I dont know if i like it so much. I tried one batch of clones and i have one that survived from that after a week, and ive started a new batch of clones yesterday but i dont know, they arnt lookin so hot today. It seems easier for me to start from seed. But i havent given up on the clones just yet.

I dont think that the widow nessessarily got a head start. It seems to me that white widow just is screaming out to grow. It wants to grow and it seems to me to be very forgiving. Ive heard that its a moderate strain to grow, but i think its simple as hell. lmao.

I used an 18/6 light sechedual on my veg side. I think it helps make them bushier, but i also use flouresents for vegging, so the lights can get real close, helps to stop stretching out so much i think. after a month of vegging thats when it went to 12/12 under the hps.

The other thing is to clean my rez, when i change the nutes, which, on my flowering side i change the 10 gallon tank once a week, mainly just cause i dont want anything to go wrong, so i use half strength general hydro nutes changed once a week, every sat morning, and when i change the nutes i take the rez to the tub and scrub it down with soap, or sometimes ill spray it with diluted alchohal and scrub it, rinse it out thoroughly and then put the new nutes back in. It might not all be nessessary, but it cant hurt either. My veg side is a 16 gallon, but thats a drip system, and i clean it out every 2 weeks. Cause if the mothers die i wouldnt be as heart broken as if my buds died :cuss: I would definitly say, if you start smelling any must clean it out, musty smell is a sign of mildew and mold. spray some lysol around too, that kills all kinds of things. Just dont get it in your nutes or on your plants.

The main thing is its just so much fun. It drives me crazy that its illegal. Its so retarded. Good luck with your grow, ill be watchin :D

Most likely not mildew, the temp is 76-80F and humidity is 63% and lights are on 18/6.

I honestly dont think its spider mites. maybe mold, but it doesnt look like webs really and on top of that you would see the mites all over the place. Thats definitly a mystery

Hey man... I finally made it over. Sorry I lag.

I would try to lower water temps, that would be good. No H2o2 with DM products. I'll put an emal at the end of post from Dutch Master. I hope people don't slam me for posting it...

I don't do ebb and flow, but since you aren't using rockwool to keep some wetness after the table drains, you might just want to keep the water in 2 minutes or something. I don't know, just an idea... I would listen to cruzer about watering.

About the rez... I cleaned mine once... when I finished the grow. It does smell like a locker room in mine... I think that's a dutch master thing. Kinda like stinky feet or something, haha. Trust me the smell does not get into the buds... they taste good.

Dutch Master stuff just makes your rez smell funny. If you don't see anything growing... it probably isn't.

I would recommend also using DM's Silica. It helps keep mold away, I don't know the specifics but have read people swear by it.

I am starting a grow in a Deep Water Culture with plenty of airstones. I am going to use your full range of products. Advance flower + grow, liquid light, gold penetrator, potash, max flower + grow, zone, and silica.

My question: Is it ok to use H2o2 (hydrogen peroxide) as an additive to my reservoir? Will the h2o2 make any of your products less effective?

Response from DM:
In answer to your enquiry I would not use Dutch Master products with Peroxide, in fact I would not be using Peroxide at all, or with any products, whilst you are growing your plants. H2O2( or more commonly Hydrogen Peroxide ) breaks down into hydrogen and water when you add it to your system. What is not told however is that the oxygen released is a free radical oxygen! This free radical oxygen is what give Hydrogen Peroxide its killing power. However it doesn't just attack pathogens - it attacks everything! Your plants roots, your nutrients are all affected in a negative way with Hydrogen Peroxide. You are better to use a gentle root zone optimizers like Zone whilst you are growing your plants and use Hydrogen Peroxide as an in between crop sanitizer.

Recent research conducted by the University of Switzerland showed that using Hydrogen Peroxide as part of a nutrient solution caused oxidative damage to plant roots. I hope this helps!

Three more things. I have no idea what is on your leaves. Weird.

If your rez is in anyway exposed to light that will warm it up considerably. I don't know if you remember my grow, but I put the wood stuff as a divider between the 'lighted grow space' and the rez area. Just putting those peices of wood around the rez dropped the temps by 6-8 degrees. Might want to check that out.

Last, I don't know but you might need to cover the whole table with panda film (or whatever you are using). I think the tiniest bits of light can get through the gaps in the hydroton and effect your roots. In my second grow I found out just how sensitive roots are to light. EXTREMELY sensitive. I thought no way just a tiny glow of indirect light could affect the roots, but it did greatly. They need absolutely 100% dark.

Grow is looking good.
