Hortilux vs Generic HPS Bulb?

What's up everyone, I just joined the forum today, and plan on setting up a liquid cooled grow room in the next several days. I have a 600W liquid cooled light, water chiller, and all the necessary pumps and tubing. The one thing I've been wondering is- are the $100+ bulbs from Hortilux really worth the exorbitant price? They claim they deliver 17% more total energy than standard HPS lights, but I've heard/seen grows where people have done real well with generic HPS bulbs. Does anyone have any input on this, or experience in using regular bulbs vs the EYE Hortilux brand?

The hortilux is a much better bulb and it shows in yields and density. The color spectrum is made for growing while generics are just made for lighting. here is a link to get the hortilux eye super enhnaced spectrum 600 watt hps bulbs for $74.99 free shipping. I just ordered a few new myself good place and its as low as you ll get new without a wholesale license..

Thanks for the info guys, it looks like I'll be going with the Hort...now back to setting up the grow room, I'm thinking about starting a grow journal if I can stay motivated enough to post updates periodically...

I use Hilux grow bulbs and they are ten times better than a regular bulb . . . . I assume the Hortilux bulbs are just as good.

Never heard of HILUX before so cant give any thought on them but Hortilux is the best of all bulbs
They are priced about the same and the spectrum is about the same too. I just picked the HiLux because it is made in Germany not China. Where are Hortilux bulbs made?

Hortilux is made in US now and quality is suffering. The hilux bulbs are very nice and work much better on digital ballasts.

Where are the hilux bulbs sold at online? You say around same price as the hortilux like $75 for 600 watts and about $85 for 1000 watt bulbs right? I tried to google them but it only shows Toyota and thenb a Chineese led company called Hiluxled

I'm not really sure how much I paid for them, I ordered them from my hydro supply guy as a bulk order with a bunch of other equipment so I would get a discount. I would have to find the receipt, but I remember when I was trying to decide which to order he told me he would get both at the same price.

Great Thread. Looking for the expereinced for the next bulb and best bulb for a 400 watt Lumatek digital ballast. Anyone have ideas? I am reading not all bulbs work well with digital ballast?

That's the one thing I missing using a 250w ballast. The only premium bulb is the 270w Super Agro. It has the enhanced spectrum but it only puts out an extra 1,000 lumens over a standard bulb.
