How's the res cooler coming sog? I've been doing a lil bit of research and I think you could use a chiller hooked up to a big gatorade cooler. You could drill holes into the gatorade cooler and use washers and aquarium silicon to make a good seal. From that use a water pump + pex tubing (they make insulated pex tubing too) to each reservoir. I'm researching plastic radiators but haven't found anything yet. Lemme know what you think.

I'm about to buy a new light. Can anyone tell me about the sunleaf 200 watt comet flourescent fixture. Has anyone used this light?

I'm not even sure it's root rot. Res temps are too high, but that doesnt ensure root rot. probability goes up for sure.

I've dealt EXTENSIVELY with root rot back in my old DWC and Aero/NFT days.

Roots will have a slime to them.

If you dont have slime, or some sort of viscous shit on the roots aside from the discolorization, then I dont think it's pythium.

Step 1) get the res temps down. after that, try the other stuff.

if you're using anything that stains roots (liquid karma...etc.) then dont panic.

Unless you get your res temps back to spec, I'd stop using that shit because it can confuse the issue, if there even IS an issue. Karma stained roots isnt an issue.

Sometimes we panic and put our poor plants through a grip of shit when we should just CHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! :weed:

Pythium IS like herpes, the shit is very hard to get rid of. I tried hygrozyme and I found it to be 33 dollars worth of trash that I wish I'd just have ditched all my plants and started over. (I'm not a fan of that stuff, if it's not obvious).

First run jitters get us all. after all I've learned... my new motto is "less is more"

yea hygrozyme is trash.

i already told him about root staining shit like Liquid Karma...

didnt know if he even used the liquid karma on these plants tho

and in some of the pics you can clearly see the slime

Yak, I'm sorry but I have to disagree.

In Hydro systems there are 2 common water borne pests that can appear to be one and the same, but are not and require different approaches (From my posting on StinkBuddies):

Root Rot , or pythium, or damping off, is a bacteria which feasts on dead root material climbing up the plant and eventually choking it out at the base of the stem. To get rid of it what I did was clean and rinse reservoirs, added only H2O and H2O2, rinsed off the roots removing what was dead, and if already on the stem, removed all black colored tissue and rubbed a small amount of rubbing alcohol on my fingers and over the wound. Some plants that had the bugs feasting on it longer due to an unexpected trip, had to be chopped above the infection and re-rooted; during the worst episode I lost 6 ladies total. After wards I found that enzyme solutions (like the brand name ones the nutrient companies dilute and sell for twice the price of gold or the pond and pet store brands that seem to work just as well) do a great job of 'eating' away dead root material hence not providing the adequate environment to flourish. To prevent root rot keep your reservoir temperatures in check, make sure no moisture is collecting above the root zone, near the stems, on top of the neoprene, etc. and use some enzymes to keep your rotting roots to a minimum.

Brown Algae, a clear like slime, that sometimes can begin as a frothy white foam, soon turns to a brown almost gray muck, that can also leave what looks like oil slicks on the top of the water in your reservoir (coincidently, brown algae has been used to bioengineer a new type of fuel). This stuff can appear in reservoirs even with good temps, they can be caused by over feeding or higher than normal levels of nitrogen, exposure to HID, any many other scenarios. This stuff gets nasty and can choke out your stems. Getting rid of this puppy can be a pain, although I started when I first discovered the frothy foam and beat it first attempt, beginners luck I guess. To get rid of it I removed the plants from the reservoir, these were actually in a 14 gallon 6 hole DWC, I rinsed each of the plants' roots under the faucet with cool, not cold water, I then took a brand new reservoir (Rubbermaid containers are cheap for the most part, I have learned as a rule of thumb always keep at least one extra one around - and that's a tip from your uncle Lar) filled it with only H2O and H2O2 and let it run for 24 hours. I then rinsed the plan't roots under the faucet while the reservoir got bleached scrubbed and air blown dry. Added H2O, after 24 hours more with no sign of the slime I added nutes and continued as scheduled. There are a couple of products out there to combat the slime, with Physan 20 being one of the most recommended. As always to prevent, keep light away from water, rinse, drain, and replenish nutes at least every 2 weeks to prevent nitrogen build up, and keep your grow areas as clean as humanly possible - remember what mom used to say, "I wan't this floor clean enough to eat off of!" If you wouldn't eat off any surface in your grow room then it's time to clean it =)

take it back.

from now on....use Canna's cannazym, AN's Sensizym (or whatever its called)

or just dont use hygrozyme at all...

i told ya before that is a waste of monies and im not a fan of hygrozyme :p
I use Stress Zyme (http://www.google.com/products?q=stress+zyme) which is basically the same enzymes that are used in the highly overpriced versions marketed to our particular type of grower. This stuff has saved me more often than I'd like to count.

gotcha

here is my new soup, noting touched it yet
my new res takes 4 gallons and its solid white!
the soup colors are showing nice

I've watched through the color changes as i was mixing
i started with base PBPG @ 40mm (light brown color, barely noticeable)
then mixed CMP @ 20mm (bit more dark, light noticeable)
next was LK @ 20mm (very dark, once mixed faded away)

pH'd and all good stuff
then added RE @ 4.4mm (now that's whats giving the water the extra dark tone in the pic)

pH@ 5.8
ppm@ 540 (EC @ 0.5)
temp@ 74

moving the girls, no root cuttings yet
i rinsed one girls roots, she seemed fine,
especially looking at the soup's colors now

that's aimply irresponsible blunts!!!!!

ok sog......here's what we need to have happen....

you want to start off with a layering effect from front to back , then sweep the bangs off the right side to expose new growth. then i would go for a zero fade starting with a #2 gaurd.
