hey bro,
using coco is the same as growing in full hydroponic mediums, u can use a 2inch netpot in a NFT system and have the plant to maturity about 2-3 feet tall no problem. in soil that pot would need to be at least 30-50 lt pot if u want decent fat buds. Soil works differently in that the plants growing in it become root bound, so they do need repotting more regularly, this doesn't happen in hydroponics. Plants will maintain optimum nutrient and moisture levels in hydroponic systems, which offer several benefits: healthier plants, faster growing plants and plants that will be more disease resistant as they are not normally stressed by drought. The root systems stay smaller on hydroponically grown plants, so the plant can concentrate its growth energy on producing plant mass, rather than roots. Allows the grower to have more plants per square foot of growing space. Hydroponically grown plants never get root bound, so they do not need repotting. Hydroponic produce has a longer shelf life than soil-grown produce. Hydroponics is clean. Coco is hydroponics or cocoponics . Hope this helps

here is a pic of my bubblelicious male i keep in veg in case i need pollen, its been in a small plastic cup. 200ml. been in it for 2 months from clone. Yes its in coco. and because its clear the light hits the roots and they have gone green as u can see, but i dont care its only a male backup.

Why can coco growers support bigger plants in smaller pots? I get rootbound in soil wayyy before my friends running coco see issues.

Anyone willing to lend a hand? Have 5 seedlings growing in coco. All have been fed with Dutch Master for the first week but the next fert three of them will be going to Age Old Organics.

I have a Barney's Honey B and a Super Lemon Haze that are staying with the Dutch. The Haze has a bit of browning on the tips of the first leaves and looks like a mag def but not sure and unfortunately the pic isnt the best but you can see there is a burn. Doesnt look anything like a nute burn, more like a def burn. I've read that the SLH are nute whores so this could be a fun ride.

Also, my Honey B is twisting like the woman I always wanted to marry. Any idea what that could be? The plants are currently 1 week old today, have been under light for 24 but will be changing to 18/6 soon and have a PH of 5.7.

Thanks for any help.

hey without pics to look at its really hard to tell. Are the DM nutes for coco? look for nutes for coco, i'm sure Dutch Master has a line that they use in coco, they used to i know i used it. its a 2 part grow and flower mix. i used potash plus and some other DM thing in conjunction with it. I prefer Canna but each to there own. Now as far as the twisting this can be de to a number of reasons, so without pics would only be guessing. could be a slight nute burn, what strength yiou feeding ? how old are the plants? sorry u said 1 week, were they from seed or clone? what lights? temps/humidity? lots of things need to be factored in to the equasion to get the right answer to fix the problem. Post a few pics if u can, & we will be able to help a bit better.

Wow this really rocks! A coco forum ....who would have ever though! Hell up to last year I was a 11 year veteran of the great outdoors for all my grows. I went to a venue in Vancouver and I just so happen to see this huge plant growing in this small as fucking little container...wtf??? so I went over and the rest is history. I am so so happy that I have made the switch to indoor HPS Coco growing. Not only can I grow exotic strains, and spend really good money on grade A seeds and not have to worry about mother nature, but just the overall bud development and quality is so much better than any outdoor bud i have every grown or smoked, and i dont care if or what nutes u use, you'll never get as fat, dense, sticky buds outdoor that are fatter denser or bigger than buds grown under HPS and in Coco...IMHO Thanks for the forum guys....ill check back often..till then....FIRE IN DA HOLE

P.S. This is my last outdoor grow.....ever :)

If prices and my budget allows, I'll be getting coco fiber/coir tomorrow to replace soil. Are there any brands you guys would recommend I do not get? I've gotta go as cheap as possible in order to get it this month, so most highly recommended brands won't work for me right now.... I'm a cheapskate whenever I can be, anyhow; you learn to be very frugal when you gotta be.

Also, how much coco should I get to fill 4-6 three gallon pots? (4 minimum, 6 is great if I can afford to get enough this month.)

Thanks in advance for any/all advice! :D

With the girls going on the 4th week and everything looking good I notice one thing.
6" net pots are too big. So the next will be 3.75".
I think I am gonna squeeze them in a bit more, close to the 4/sqft mark.
On to my question what method of water/nute delivery are you guys using?

Hand water, drip, mist???

I am going to try out mist and see how it works I can always go back to my tried and true Dixie cup method if it doesn't work.
I am gonna order 100 nozzles from Orbit on Tuesday.
I built all my manifolds tonight except one that I glued a "T" on the wrong way before I noticed leaving me 1 short.
These misters work off of a pressure pump and produce very fine mist at the rate of half of a gal/hour.

Let me know what ya think.

Yes like Aeroponics. Finer than what most seem to use for nozzles and not as fine as a fogger system as they seem to need ebb and flow supplementation. I am going to try the Orbit .014" nozzles with a pressure pump. It should provide a nice fine mist and plenty of O2 to the root system.

im confused, are you in coco?

Yes I am using Coco.
With a few plants hand watering is pretty easy chore however the new setup I am building is nearly 4x8 with 90 locations.
Hand watering is going to become a bit more of a chore.
I believe that in Masters first post on this list he says that coco lends itself to most forms of gardening including aeroponics.

so if i am understanding right, you are using net pots filled with coco and setting them in a aeroponics system that sprays/mists the net pots full of coco?? i would think u would get clogged nozzles like crazy...
I've never seen anyone using that method, IF thats what your doing...

it seems like it would be easier and cheaper to just use a top feed drip system? but if you think your on to something, i guess go for it.

or, if you just feed once a day you could still hand water (i hand water more than 90 plants everyday and it takes about ten minuts or so) or if you want the multible feeds than you will have to go automated for sure.

Yea that is what the guy at the local shop is saying too. KISS method. As I said I may be back to my 20 oz. Dixie cup before it is over.

I am still building everything at the moment but will post another set of pics when I get this part of it up and going.

I just put a 25 micron pre-filter in where all the return lines dump back in. There will be another where I fill the res and a canister type before the pump. But just in case I am ordering 30 extra nozzles too.

Hey welcome, You will find thats prob more a hassle that what u think. The nutrients salts will block the misters 100% my 4L/H drippers block at least once every 6-8 weeks from shit, salts etc... (they have a huge hole, and it still blocks) I use drippers for feeding/nute delivery but i use slabs and hand watering them just would not be efficient for my method. i find that sometimes when the pump turns off, if the dripper is to close to the coco coir it will suck up small bits that block the dripper aswel. This will = DRY DEAD plants! Trust me i know from experience. So Many options, you just need to decied whats the most effieicent way for delivery for your style of coco growing.
