I can't give answers to this since I am a newbie also. But, I broke the main cola off 1 week into 12/12, the results have been really nice, all the side branches grew up and I have 8 main tops(ones a double), so 9 and many smaller lower ones.
Is my first attempt at growing, 9-10 days left.

Do your topping in vegg,
basically it will produce two top instead of one.

FIMM is just a sloppy way of topping, that's why it stands for "F*** I missed".
If you want to pinch the growing tip follow this
1. FIM Tutorial (taking the guesswork out)
2. Topping is just removing the top couple inches of the plant, above the second node. Do it any time except seedling or flowering stages

Topping is a method you use to get more branches,just like in the pic.I Highly suggest supercropping too.
