i will be running a thousand watt hps and a 10 x 10 room. To cool the light should i use a 6 or 4 inch inline fan? I see anywhere from 70 cfm to 250. what do you guys think would be optimal for this light? Should i bring the air from under my house or from the room? meaning should i have an intake from an outside source?

You need to do a lot more research. I have a 6in with 265cfm for my 400w, i would say you need atleast that, fans can go over 2000cfm

go with the six inch. I have a 6" s&p td150 pulling my exhaust room air through my hood to cool 1000w and the glass stays cool to the touch.

I have been using a 1000w hps to flower for about a year. I started out using a 4" Vortex in line fan to cool a Sun Supply Yieldmaster II 6" glass covered hood. I necked down one 6" opening to the hood to connect the 4" fan. It worked just fine in my opinion my plants would get closer than 6" to the light and not suffer heat stress (althought this was because I let my plants height get away from me, I like to keep them about 1 foot minimum away from the light and 1.5 feet optimum distance just to maintain better coverage, ).

Ithen used a 6" Vortex to cool the same hood and it worked even better, although I feel it was not necessary.

I now use Sun Supply Magnum XXXL hood with 1000w hps and the 6" Vortex and its THE POO! I realized what a difference a nice hood can make, my yield and quality has increased dramatically from this one investment.

In short: 4" worked just fine for me to cool a 1000w light, but 6" worked even better :blsmoke:

edit: Looks like nickfury has the same magnum hood I do (the one with the air intake). My 6" fan also like nicks does more than just cool a single light, it also pulls air through a large carbon scrubber as well before exhausting.

smokealot thanks man i need as much info as possible just want to do it right thanks to all.
Fo sho. I'd get the 4" if you're ballin on a budget and you know all its gonna have to do is cool that one light. If you think you ever might want to expand by adding a light or a carbon scrubber that you might need the fan to do some extra work, then I'd spring for the 6" :bigjoint:

Man...not to derail or anything, but I just finished off a crazy breakfast at 7:00am. Eggs w/ cheese, tabasco, & salsa. Gorton's beer battered fish fillets also w/ tabasco. Coffee to speed things up a bit....definitely a hangover breakfast haha.

I can hear by colon screaming in terror already.
