First Grow: DIY Bubbleponics (Bagseed)

My grow tent is exactly the same size, 4'x2'. A 400 watt will definitely be enough to get you through a grow of that size. I would recommend getting the switchable ballast with MH (metal halide) bulb for vegetative growth and HPS (High Pressure Sodium) bulb for flowering. The MH emits more light in the blue end of the spectrum which is required for veg and HPS emits more red light which will produce dense buds during flower.

I've heard of using the 400 hps for the whole grow but you might want to get some 26 or 42 watt cfl and put them into Lowe's HD reflector to supplement. The young ones like a clue color for best growth and the HPS is more a orange/red light spectrum. They also make 400 HPS bulbs with a higher blue level which can allow you to use what you have to better advantage:

There are also conversion bulbs that take your 400 HPS ballast and run a 400 MH filiment

What you use kind of depends on the budget.

I agree with you on the waiting till you are home to manage the grow. Recently went on vacation and I had nothing growing for awhile. Damn near killed me after doing this for a little over a year. Remember the plant is not additive but growing it is! Keep reading and you'll do great. Heard nothing but good things on the ak-48!

I looked at my plants this morning and it looks like I have 2 confirmed males :( Check out the pics below. Another one is also showing preflowers but is not distinguishable yet. I'm gonna pull out the males when the lights come back on tonight.

DAMNED BALLS!

I'll be glad to get my males out to make more room for LIGHT penetration. My clsoet is so full, I can't get a bulb in betwen them now.

That is a great male pic of balls. Lt SS, Can I put that pic in my tutorial if I give you credit for it?

you had newbies there with 2 posts, telling you all wrong and I did not want to argue with them.

I have no exhaust, I have very little heat. I do have a small oscilating fan on the floor and a taller , larger one on a pole.

Roseman, you can absolutely use that picture. And crack I do have a 4" computer fan at the top of my tent for exhaust. Make sure if you do not have an exhaust fan that you at least have some oscillating fans like roseman has to circulate the air.

So as I said, I found 2 males and removed them yesterday. Tonight I found more balls so I have 1 more male. Hopefully the last 3 are females. Anyway, I did not remove the third male yet because I've heard that females can sense if there is a male or not, and if there is not one the will turn male or hermi. Idk if this is true so let me know if you have experience with this. Pics are after removing 2 males and of the third's balls. I also tied the big one to the support poles because it's really starting to overpower the others. Let me know what you guys think. Peace :peace:

I'm thinking you are thinking about this too much. LOL! But I do understand. More danger in leaving the male an extra day than delaying the inevitable removal of the male to not induce hermies. Hermies happen most from genetics and growing stress. You now have what I would consider an average split of 50/50 males/females. Luck of the draw kind of thing with regular seeds. Peace to you also!

Hey man, great grow LT!!
Mostly, Roseman, I have a question. I'm about to start my flowering and I have constructed an ebb and flow to work in conjunction with the bubbleponic setup. The first question I have is have you tried this technique or herd of this? I read about in on another forum but the dude has since disappeared. Also, I can foresee a task when I attempt to get the roots untangled with one another inside the BP res. I have heard that I can cut them, and that an individual plant can loose up to 1/4 of her roots and still be OK. Also, how can I prepare the plants for the inevitable shock they will have of going into another tent, with a different bulb, and an entirely different setup?
And one last thing, any truth to the theory of starting your flowering stage under a full moon to promote more vivacious plants?

You re changing things up at a crucial time. If I were you I would keep it on veg nutes while I did a transfer like that. Give it more of a chance to have the power to recover quickly. You an go 12/12 but just keep the N where it is now. Haven't tried it and didn't see the thread. Full moon theory is interesting but it might be hard for the plants to sense all of it from inside the house. I do at least look at moon phase when I plant outside but it is not a guiding principle.

Thanks guys! I'm probably gonna remove the male today. This superstition about females turning male if there isn't one close by sounds kinda bogus when I think about it. Plus, there's no reason for me to keep a male in there that's taking up space and light so I'll take it out tonight. Also, I will have a 50/50 split if the remaining 3 are females which I'm praying they are. Wish me luck!

No and NO.

UP to HALF can be removed. GET ALL THE MALE ROOTS and take as many female roots as you have to take.

My granny said to start all gardens under a full moon to get more yield.

Thanks guys. I believe I have nothing but fem plants, but I'll know here shortly. I have one mystery plant (I've called it Dr. Zombie) that came from a bag of free seeds when I got feminized Northern Lights and fem. Green Spirit. It's growing like a mad, by far the healthiest of my plants, but I'll keep an eye on it anyway. What I'll do then is go ahead and make the transition, try and keep the root loss to a minimum, start the 12/12 light cycle, but keep the nutes the same as they were for veg for the first week. I think thats what I gathered from what you said Mostly. I have a few plants that are about 3 weeks behind and they'll be ready to go into 12/12 by November 2nd, the next full moon. It'll be the same plants, so a quasi-experiment. I'll let you know the results. Also, with my clones, does the size of the cutting matter for the chances of it surviving?

Also, I have yet to get my flowering tent. I'm restricted to 76" vertically. This is the only tent I have found that will fit where I want it.
http://www.amazon.com/Hydroponics-Grow-Tent-Hydro-Cabinet/dp/B001SS5VPC My concern is that I have read that some tents are bud killers and some are the shizzle. I really like my Secret Jarden, and the veg room is perfect, but unfortunately the size that I need for flowering is gonna be too tall. What can you tell me about this tent above?

LT- sorry I abducted your thread there for a second. Your plants are gorgeous. You should give them my number, maybe I could take them out for a drink sometime.

I do not have tubes going to the net pots anymore, but when I did, they were pumping water from a 6 outlet manifold connected to a submersible pump. All that is in the reservoir now is a 4" delux air disk connected to a 20 gallon Tetra Whisper air pump.

So I checked on my ladies today and I have my first proven female! It's the biggest plant I have so I am very happy. Also, the other too look like they have female preflowers but I'm waiting for the hairs to be absolutely sure. I removed the third male today so pics are of everything with just the 3 left and 2 pics of the hairs on my big girl. Check it out!
