Well government set up the current system.
They botched it. (Nixon and LBJ)
Now they want to run even more of it.
I think what we need is less government less corpratism and more freedom.
Tort reform and interstate insurance competition,
the Republican plan, will just nibble at the edges, IMO.
We need to put the healthcare dollars back in the consumers hands.
We need to be rid of third party payers altogether.
It is insurance companies and government,
with there large pools of money,
That inflate healthcare costs.
We need health savings accounts.
(tax deductions for contributions and all medical procedures)
Dovetailed with long term major medical.
(Like Term life insurance only for health)
As well as dollar for dollar tax credits for doctors who do pro-bono work.
(This would help everyone who can't aford any healthcare)
This takes the money and power away from Government and insurance companies.
Gives the power to the people and the doctors.
Does not create any new government agencies or taxes.
Our spending is unsustainable as a nation.
The government claiming its gonna cut costs is a line of B.S.
IMO the time for nibbleing at the edges is over.
We as a country need to have a real discussion,
of what government programs we should simply do away with altogether.
We should not be talking about what government is gonna give us.

I kinda like the way you think. But the way the world works we rely on the government to much now, meaning how much power they have over us. We wont get our freedom back without a fight.
And how many people do you think have a thin enough skull to even start to change ways.... Not many...

A friend of mine broke her ankle in Manzanillo, Mexico about 15 years ago. It was a compound fracture, so they flew her to Guadaljara to a good medical facility. The Mexican surgeon came into her room to council her. He said: "You're an American, so I suppose that you don't trust Mexican doctors. If that's the case, we can fly you to a good hospital in Texas, but I can assure you that I got my medical degree from a fine American university." Her reply was: "Nope, I trust you, so go ahead with the surgery." The end result was ... one week in the hospital, plus the surgery = a total cost of $2,500. The job was perfectly done and she has had no chronic pain or any kind of disability from the surgery.

None of this is about health "care." it has been about finance from the start. In fact, if you look back you'll see team Obama originally referred to it as "health insurance reform" then discovered that polls were stronger for healthcare reform.

Question to those on the left who support less freedom for greater security, do you have any idea what it feels like to be the boss of yourself in every aspect of your life?
Most people think they have full control, but they lack at least some freedom when it comes to work.
Do you know what it feels like to run your own small business from the ground up?
My business has healthy profit margins and employs 35 people.
You see just because I am technically the boss, doesn't mean I should take away the freedoms of others because I have the power to do so. I refer to what are called employees as co-workers. Not MY employees. Calling them my employees makes them feel like I have some freedom over them that they do not have.
Work is really the only time we are enslaved. We have to do it.
However, this is STILL better than mandatory government edicts because we do have a partial choice in working.
We can choose to not work and die of malnutrition or some other reason due to lack of financial security.
OR
We can choose to work and live.
It's not really a choice, since most people burn with passion when it comes time to survive. Naturally, we choose to work.
However, the government forcing us to pay for something is not freedom. Not at all.
Why? Because if we do not pay they will take it anyways. It's mandatory.
