You're thinking of that other bunch that raised hell in Sierra leon"Executive Outcomes".Eric prince is in some deep shit right now,Blackwater has changed its name 3 times but they keep going back to the old name.I think its easier and cheaper to send em for jobs that need small well trained squads.They want to be there and we get less kids killed using seasoned troops.Oh another thing,they have a badass training facility.They train SWAT,Arabic emersion language courses and some badass dog training.If Eric hadn't started contracting jobs on witnesses against him i think they would have gotten away with the ambush kill.

I'm sure there are plenty of things about Blackwater that I don't like. But they wouldn't be there if there weren't a market. Security is a commodity. It may be the future for nations that recognize the need for security to be exported to the trouble spots of the world but don't want to do it themselves to outsource it. The worst alternative is not to inject any security at all into those places.

I guess, that's where we disagree fundamentally. Security is not a commodity, it's a public good and should never be a for-profit business. I feel the same way about infrastructure, criminal justice and healthcare insurance, by the way.
The thing I don't like about them is mostly that they are murderous assholes who think they're on a christian crusade. The wife-swapping is kinda funny though....

Security is for sure a commodity. Without it economic development can't happen. That is what it holding most of the middle east back 600 years - no functional governments and no security. There are four commodities that must move freely throughout the world in order to end poverty and war. They are: capital, energy, people and security.

Regardless of how bad contracting out for national security might be, it's still a lot better than using it as a political bargaining chip like Obama apparently tried to do with Ben Nelson. That was a blunder and just makes team Obama look even more like the Chicago thugs they are.

How bout the fact that Obama was strongly against the use of contractors (blackwater and others) in iraq? now hes sending twice as many contractors as troops for this new surge? dont know the number but i beleive there will be more contractors in afghanistan than iraq now! he bashed the hell out of bush for his use of contractors! Like we dont remember! wow.......
