Bum Bulb

So I bought a 400w hps/mh conversion HID system from HTG Supply.

I went through veg just fine with the Mh bulb.

Switched to the HPS....No Glow. No Nothing but the hum from the ballast.

Swapped timers etc....nothing.

Put the MH bulb back in and all is well.

Conclusion: I was sent a bum HPS bulb.

When I 1st took the HPS out of its carton....It looked like it had already been used. Black ends on the filament or whatever you call it.

This sucks not only because I dont have the HPS for flowering....But its going to be a while before I get a new bulb due to Turkey Day and all....If they even believe me in the 1st place.

Did I already mention that this sucks?

talk to tony, he should send one out right away.

i had trouble with my bulb and he sent one with no charge. this was after 6 months of use.

same thing happened to me and he was very kind...I recieved the new bulb in 3 days.

Did you touch the HPS with your hands? Oil from your fingers will burn a bulb out and possible explode.

Gotta use a rag or a sock to screw it in.

How quiet is that ballast?
If it was in an apartment on the floor could a neighbor hear it buzz hum or whatever?
Im thinking of getteng thet package from htg.
There is also a 220 deal from a local hydro shop for a hydrofarm 400w with builtin ballast that can use either mh/hps no need for convesion bulbs. what do you guys think?

Its quite enough....You cant hear it outside the room....Mine is on carpet though. MH/HPS conversion is cheap way to get both lights. Not sure about the HF system though.

And no....nothing touched the bulb other than a t-shirt prior to being screwed in....The bulb was just beat.

But like I said....he did a good job of taking care of the situation.

Excelent thread man, my new HPS bulb just popped so ill be giving them a call too. nice to hear they stand by thier products.
