I use a $30 Hanna pH meter from ebay and it is fine. You don't need great pH precision for what we do. And, you don't really need a ppm meter either.

Thanks for the help. I was looking at the Hanna pH meter. I've also read that about the ppm and have you should focus more on the pH versus ppm.

Buy a surplus Thermo Orion or YSI pH meter off of eBay. It might f take a week or tow to find one at a good price but it wil be a much better meter that a $100 hobby grade meter. Just the pH probos fora Thermo Orion or YSI typically retail for over $200 each. If you have a hard time finding one just let me know. I have several boxes full of Thermo Orion laboratory grade pH meters.

That depends on how much yield you want and what quality you want.

I found that documenting my many grows with a journal showing ppm's and ph, I have been able to double my yields and produce totally topshelf, "high demand" quality bud.

If you want to continue to improve your growing skill, you need a ph meter AND a ppm meter. I went with the hanna combo meter (the black one)... about $160. Well worth it.

Anyone can grow pot. But not everyone can grow high quality, high yielding meds. It's an art that can be learned but you have to take the time to do it and do it right.

Good luck dude.

I got a hanna grocheck and it is awesome. Simple to use and calibrate. I got it on craigslist for $50
I will say if you are using the lucas formula you might not need a ppm meter but if you use anything else i would recommend one.
think of you ph as the speedometer and the ppm as the fuel guage.

I would recommend purchasimg a pH meter form a company called Gryf HB. They are more expensive then the above mentioned meters but just like everying in life, you get what you pay for. I have used their meter for years and it was well worth the money.

I just bought a 50 dollar ph 55 from milwaukee with a two year warranty auto two point calibration and temperature compensation that reads to the .0 as in 5.8 is easy to read that came with a nice case two packets of 4.0 and 7.01. The probe is replacable for 30 dollars and it is waterproof. It came. I soaked for tow hours in 7.01 to activate probe. I followed the directions which i normally screw up and it was calibrated easy. I use it nonstop now on everything. I love it. My gh three part with hardwater micro it turned out was doing a pretty good job of buffering the solution over time but this is better. Also I found out why my clones took so long. THe ph of my tap is 7.5. I got by with strips and nothing this is way better. You just stick it in the 7.01 the it says done put me in 4.01 and you do that and it says done. Presto it is calibrated. Store it with 7,01 in the cap and it lasts a while.

if you're just starting out, yes a Hanna will do you fine. One tip: Store in res check fluid and clean it with distilled water, it'll last much longer between cals. Getting into PPM can be overwhelming for a first time grower and lead to burn or worse problems. Keep it simple and when you understand better how water works, you can explore more options.
