Ms, I would be lieing out of my ass if I told you that I'm not completely obsessed with your grow op. I'm going to be starting my first grow soon using CFLS, I was curious if you could give me and, and all advice possible. Everyone has to start somewhere right? I'm in the same boat as you, I have limited height grow space so I'm thinking about vegging for about three weeks, then 9 weeks flowering. To do this, I'm thinking about purchasing:

2x42 Watt CFL Light Bulb - 150 W Equal - Full Spectrum Daylight 6500K
5x55 Watt CFL Light Bulb - 250 W Equal - Warm White 2700K - Spring Lamp

Let me know what you think about this lighting setup I would really appreciate it. Also, some links to some good soils would be nice.

I'm going to be using the thin layer of glass idea aswell.
-I'm going to be taking two 240cm computer exhaust fans (big ones) on my old case, and put them into the grow room.
-I'm going to take four 120cm computer intake fans and placing them on the left hand side of the top of the grow box, where it will be sending the air towards tge right, where one exhaust fan is going to be on the top, and one on the left.
Thermo/Hydro meter as well, of course.

Let me know on what you think! Thanks :bigjoint:

Hello safety :-)

Thank you for the comments. My little cabinet just kind of evolved out of being busted with my larger, more conventional grow a couple of years back. I was desperate to start again BUT I wanted it to be not just a grow box but also a sort of 'protest' based on the premise that if it ever happened again I would fight my corner through the legal system and with just a couple of small plants in a metre square cabinet it would make a mockery of the huge waste of taxpayers money! For the same reason I wanted it to be as 'home made' as possible with no hydroponic systems involved, just plain old soil :-)

Your plans sound good to me, how many plants are you considering? Its important that hte glass screen can be easily removed as it collects a lot of dust very quickly. I use normal garden centre soil, but get the best you can. If you use pre fertilised soil then dont feed anything for at least 5 weeks, this is the easisest way to get healthy green plants and avoid pH issues. More you add the more the PH becomes vital as you upset the balance. You must try to resist the 'more I feed, the more they grow' thing that causes so many young plants to be burnt on this forum, thats the best bit of advice I can give :-) You want a light soil, Westlands Advanced is what I use (UK). Its very good. I'm happy to help where I can.

This is what I'm using nowdays. Its very lightweight, probably 50% lighter than any other compost I have used. I add perlite, about 20% with this.

UPDATE: 18/6, PLAIN WATER PH6.4.

Gave her a more vigorous tie down and I'm now happy with her shape. She has 7 main tops now plus many more following on. The 2 planned clones are about 2" tall so another week max will see them ready to cut. Watered yesterday, plain water of course. I'm now considering putting her into12/12 at the weekend! I think she will do well.

Shape has been achieved by LST, she has not been topped at all. Roots are just showing at the bottom of this 12 litre large pot, so it may be wise to flower sooner rather than later.

Some pics.

I must say that these plants have really evolved! They look great ms, At what point do you start the LST'ing stage? I would also like to know your exact specifications regarding your cfl's. How many do you have? Do you re-arrange them for flowering, and veg? What kind are they? These plants you use I'm assuming are autoflowers? What do you do to change your normal setup to adjust to the flowering stage?

I'd appreciate it if you could please answer some/all of those questions,

Thanks,
-S

Hi S,

I'll jot some answers down during tomorrow for you, no problem :-) But to answer one Q quickly, they're not autoflowerers, Delia is a cutting from the previous mazar :Aggie'. She sat in a sort of 16/8 schedule for about 3 weeks after she rooted and she sort of sat dormant. Soon as she was back under 18/6 and decent light again she took off!

Just had a lightht misting of the leaf shine/s mite (SMC) and shes looking pretty :-)

Cheers SICC, and I hope you're getting over that flu :-)

Safety: I'll post that info in a bit for you, still need to jot down a couple more answers!

**********************************

Right then, Thursday 5th Feb and its day1 of 12/12 time :-) I decided to go for it as shes growing so fast.

The 2 cuttings are very nearly ready to take, just another 3/4days will do. By the time Delia is about 5 weeks into flowering the 2 clones should be ready to flower themsleves. I just need to stripout my old PC case and fit it as a clone/veg box.

Pics to start the ball rolling, rule in there for scale, I'll try to capture the same shot once a week so we can see the growth rate as she goes.

DAY 3 OF 12/12, SATURDAY 6TH fEB.

'Delia' has spent much of today in the sun! OK, so shes behind glass but the intensity of the light here is too good to miss :joint:. Were right on the coast and the light quality is always amazing and those fans quickly lift up skyward.... I love to see that :-)

Had a water today, this time I bottom watered using a bubbler airstone until it was all absorbed. PH 6.4. Pot nicely heavy, we should see a boost now.

More pics?

Cheers folks :-) I must admit I was surprised how the pic caught the rays coming though the glass. Come summer my plants spend a lot of time there!

DAY 5 of 12/12. Overcast so shes sitting under her 300watts of CFL'stoday, I have about another 60watts currently switched off toward the edges but I'll use it all as flowering progresses, I intend to lower the outside bulbs so she gets plenty low down too :-)

You can see shes filled the 12" circumference pot now and the stem is getting nice and solid. PLenty of tips there, I added more LST ties in today as shes growing fast at the shoots so they need to be pulled down almost every other day.

Will be taking the 2 cutting in the next day or two.

(Please remove the images if quoting, cheers :-) )

Safety I owe you a few answers to your questions! Here goes:

LST begins as soon as you see any sign of the stem stretching but let it get a little strength before you pull it too hard. The key is gentle to start with then as they strenghten up pull down harder. My first 2 LST ties are always 1. Anchor the stem by pulling back gently and then 2. pull the stem in the opposite direction to the anchor and tie it down gently. The anchor tie prevents any root damage caused by pulling down too hard in early stages ... hope that makes sense! I continue LST right through into flowering to keep the tops as even as possible under the bulbs.

Re the bulbs well, theres 16 individual bulbs wired in there, mostly 25 watt, but the 3 'blues' are 30watts each. Total is around 350watts+.

3 bulbs are 6500 'daylight' blues.
Remainder are 2700 warm whites, they get removed for dusting regularly and I change them in rotation. I dont bother switching them a round anymore, I just use them as they are for veg/flower.

About 90 watts of the 350 are 6500, this gives a nice balanced spectrum with a soft blue edge to the overall light.

If you're interested take a scan through this old thread of mine, it has more about the set up in there, might help you safety?

Maturesmoker, I appreciate the answers. I'm going to be starting my first grow and I'm getting all of my options, I'm sure you can understand that. I have a question for you, I don't know anything about nutrients, are they a necessary? Or could I get some soil that already has the nutrients in it? Let me know on that one, I'm curious. Anyways, I'm going to be starting with three Russian Rocket Fuel's should be a decent first grow, I would love for you to follow along and give any and all advice.

I really appreciate all the help you have given me!
Thanks,
Safety
