1st NFT Grow

Hey RIU,

I am placing my faith in everyone as your all the best people to ask. Im going to move from soil to NFT. I just bought a small NFT kit and 400w HPS with maxbright ballast for £67 inc delivery. Im on ridiculous small budget. Only basic but only personal use, all got to start somewhere will upgrade to lumatek ballast at some point.

Please don't mistake me for a noob and no negativity.

What is the advantages to NFT over soil?
Can someone give me the basics on how to do a NFT grow?

Or point me towards articles/weedsite/books/dvds/ links I am more then willing to read if you wish not to type

Also it is a small grow room 2x2? white painted walls (in the wardrobe) thinking of SoG mini grow. 4 plants too much? 2 plants better? only want about 1oz per plant. more is great obviously. I want to do Northern Lights 12/12 from seed. What is the yield potential, 2 plants on 12/12 from seed under 400w HPS with 125w 2700k side lighting? I know is lots and lots of variables basically is 1oz per plant possible under them conditions?

I don't know much about NFT, I used aero, dwc and drip. The advantage of soilless grow is that the nutrient is available in abundant 24x7. You probably will get more than 1 oz per plant with a 400w HPS. It is very hard to say without any picture. May be a NFT expert can tell you more.

-Faster growth, better taste, higher yeilds. Honestly these all depend on the grower. If you know what you're doing and you have many grows under your belt using NFT, you will get better results than from soil, in my opinion.

Can someone give me the basics on how to do a NFT grow?

I use aeroponics, a version of NFT. Just think instead of the drip or flow you would have maybe 8 spray heads spraying a mist of water/nutrients on the roots of your plants every so often. I run mine at 1 min on/ 5 mins off constantly so the roots have plenty of time to get the mot amount of oxygen they can before getting another dose. It seems to work out great.

-I'd say 4 plants for that light would be great. You could possibly fit one more comfortably. If your going aeroponically the whole way through then I'd say under a 400 watt you'd get more than what you're thinking

Someone actually answered lol.
Been a great help, I think I may try a hand at it when maybe have another soil grow under my belt. I might stick my DNA LA Woman in the NFT system as it was a free seed. I like the idea of 12/12 from seed aslong as can get my 1oz per plant.
