What is comical is how you support extremist ideals that threaten and even kill in the name of their God by pointing out that ," THere are extremists in every religion"I can't wait for this thread to degenerate, in the meantime I will simply add that there are extremists in every religion. I do find it comical how much outrage has been spurred by a comic though....

Yes but how many religions kill and threaten over a cartoon depiction, that is what is truly comical relief. You would cut your nose to spite your face if it meant following your dogamatic agenda. You overlook the fact that THese extremists are threatening Americans right to their 1st amendment rights by threatening them for their depiction of Mo.
I applaud the Draw Mo day, I say thrust their ridiculous natures in their faces and let them know that this is America and we are not going to let them subjeagte us into accepting their extremist agenda fo threatening thiose who excersize their 1st amendment rights.
I don't think that religion holds the patent on death threats............do they?Death threats - just another thing religion has brought to the table.
Ain't it wonderful!
You're right, but it makes one wonder how such a terrible thing could come from something, seemingly, so moral.I don't think that religion holds the patent on death threats............do they?
It's the same as with everything else. There are always those who will take things to the extreme. There are always those who hide behind religion and will quote some scripture that they think gives them license to commit horrendous acts. It's usually some ignorant fuck who can't see the irony of their action. I mean, threatening to kill someone because they have done something reprehensible, no matter what the act is, well, it's quite fucked up. Those people are usually mentally ill or incredibly stupid. If a person wants to be true to their own faith then they can't quote one verse of scripture out of context because there is probably another verse somewhere in their religious text which contradicts it in some way. Sports stars often get death threats when they don't perform up to the standard that some fanatical fan thinks they should. Neighbors get death threats for letting their dog poop on someone elses lawn. How silly is that? You're right, but it makes one wonder how such a terrible thing could come from something, seemingly, so moral.
Hmm... makes one wonder indeed...

I think you are missing my point. It doesn't matter what the reason is, people threaten other people. Moral superiority, skin color, not being able to hit a free throw, whatever. I guess I'm confused about why it makes a difference. Why is it more heinous when a person threatens his fellow man in the name of religion as opposed to the color of his house? I don't need religion in order to claim moral superiority or any other kind of superiority for that matter. Humans are arrogant creatures and everybody always thinks that "they" are correct. Usually "they" aren't but it doesn't stop "them" from thinking "they" are.Extremely silly. My point is, none of those people are claiming moral superiority, claiming what they're doing is the right thing and everyone else should do the same things and live the same ways. Religion, and religious people do.
Why is it more heinous when a person threatens his fellow man in the name of religion as opposed to the color of his house?
The person threatening death always thinks they are right.............why else would they be threatening to kill a person? It sure as shit isn't because they think they are wrong. I don't want to put words in your mouth but it's as if you are saying that threats made under the veil of religion are somehow worse than threats made for something not of a religious nature. How can someone claim this? It makes no sense to me. Killing is wrong, no matter what the reason. Nutjobs are nutjobs man. It doesn't matter if they are holding a bible or wearing a fucking Lakers jersey!Because the person threatening death because of his religion believes he's doing the right thing. I'm sure you'll agree, it's (obviously) a bit dangerous to have people with such beliefs running around in our society. You're treading the political correct line and don't seem willing to call the shit for what it is, just because it's religion. It's OK to criticize religion Doc, there's no hell to go to.
Take religion away, all of it, completely away. These people no longer have reasons in their minds that justify these insane actions. Other people in positions of power can't use these reasons to manipulate the people that believe them. It's a lot harder to manipulate an educated person than it is a gullible one.The person threatening death always thinks they are right.............why else would they be threatening to kill a person? It sure as shit isn't because they think they are wrong. Maybe you're correct about there being no hell. You already know my stance on the issue. I criticize religion when it's warranted. I am not on some crusade to eliminate religion from the world. You seem to have trouble separating the nutjobs from the dogma. People who kill in the name of religion, no matter the faith, are not representative of their respective faiths. They are usually disturbed individuals who use religion to justify their heinous acts. They are just as wrong as the person who kills the guy who just cut him off in traffic. No more, no less.
one excuse is as good as another. take away the justifications that religion gives and others will be found to take its place. the soviet union, essentially a religionless nation, found plenty of reasons to perform various abominations, justifying them with a belief system based on totally secular ideologies that took the place of religious mania.Take religion away, all of it, completely away. These people no longer have reasons in their minds that justify these insane actions.
