mind you he was speeding at rush hour thru town, and he did have itchy balls, but does this now justify an immediate death sentence? bet HE wishes he simply got wiretapping charges.

A parolee was shot and killed by a Sonoma County sheriff's deputy at the end of a high-speed chase in Santa Rosa because he reached for his waistband as if he was reaching for a weapon, authorities said.

Albert Leday Jr., 49, was shot once in the chest after he crashed his Volvo station wagon into a light pole outside the Coddingtown Mall in Santa Rosa and twice reached for his waistband despite orders to surrender, said Santa Rosa Lt. Paul Henry.

So he was in a high speed chase?

In my opinion if you don't stop for the cops and instead run, you should be shot, no questions asked. Whether you run on foot, or try to get away from the cops in your car, they should be able to shoot you once you decide you aren't stopping.

sorry bro, a chase does not constitute murder. i hope that people that sell 4000 watt movable grow containers get shot too.

R2F I disagree with you completely, your a dumb ass if you don't try to run, if the cops are coming after me I would be fucked, I have weed all over my place my car wreaks, I'm going to do everything possible to get away, and I don't want to be shot for that, that is a decision to be made by a court of my peers, not the enemy at the time. The only time a gun should be used is if the suspect has a weapon and is attempting to use it.

exactly, i would rather take a chance in the judicial system rather than being judged by an angry leo in a split second rash decision.

Where do you live?...Russia?
A cop should only use his gun when in fear for his life.....In your world, someone who steals a bag of chips from a 7-11 and runs away should be shot right???

That has absolutely nothing to do with the topic. You are not a cop....or maybe you are???

Honestly the guy running decided to put his, and everyone else’s life in jeopardy. He could have just as easily hit a pedestrian/car and killed someone else. When he jumps out and doesn't surrender, reaches for his pants, guess what is going to happen. I would have shot the bastard too.

"he crashed his Volvo station wagon into a light pole outside the Coddingtown Mall"

good place to run over innocent people

"The deputy reported to police investigators that the suspect reached with his right hand, into his waistband, behind his back, and then suddenly pulled up on his waistband several times," Henry said. "The deputy stated that he feared the suspect was reaching for a weapon."

#1 place people like to put guns.

"Leday was pronounced dead at Sutter Medical Center in Santa Rosa. He was most recently paroled in October after a burglary conviction. He also had convictions for residential robbery, battery on a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon, threats with intent to terrorize and evading police, authorities said."

Why are you guys sticking up for this asshole?

I'm on the fence with this one. It all depends on what he originally did.
He WAS a parolee, so if he committed some sort of heinous violent offense, I could understand why the cop would of been jumpy.

his ex-girlfriend called in and said he "may have stole some jewelery" from her. SHE SAID he had a knife. SHE SAID he had hit her a few days prior. as the cops were headed to her house they saw a car matching the suspects description pass them in the opposite direction. they flipped a Uy and the pursuit started.

even if it was a weapon in his waistband, the call came in as it being a KNIFE. nothing a tazer wouldn't stop.

Man Dies In Santa Rosa Officer-Involved Shooting

Posted: 7:20 am PDT June 2, 2010
SANTA ROSA -- One man was dead after what began as a suspected burglary and high-speed chase ended in an officer-involved shooting outside the Coddingtown Mall. Deputies responded at about 4:52 p.m. Tuesday to reports of a burglary at the La Mancha Apartments on Old Redwood Highway in Larkfield. A woman there had called the sheriff's office after her ex-boyfriend, whom she suspected of stealing jewelry, reportedly confronted her, sheriff's Lt. Chris Spallino said in a statement issued late Tuesday. The name of the suspect was withheld pending positive identification and the notification of his next of kin, and the identity of the involved deputy is being withheld while the case is under investigation, Spallino said. The woman told a dispatcher with the sheriff's office that the suspect was armed with a knife and had assaulted her a few days prior. When the first deputy arrived at the scene, the suspect took off past him, driving south on Old Redwood Highway. As the suspect attempted to evade the deputy, he barreled down the highway at speeds over 90 mph while recklessly passing on the left and right of other vehicles, Spallino said. ...........................................

okay my hen house scenario didn't work for a few of you so lets try this, you're that cop, and you know he was wanted and on parole, you corner the bastard and throw down on him, he reaches for his waistband, screw him, he's dead not the cop. i know if i get pulled over and i've got a bit of weed with me, more than likely i'm going to jail. but if i decided to run instead i know the rules of the game just changed and i may get shot. i'll take the easy ride to the court house.

Sorry, where's the evidence he was "reaching for his waistband"?

Oh, right, the guy who shot him said so.

Perhaps read the story next time?

"Witnesses also reported seeing Leday reaching into his waistband"

It was outside near a mall....

So I guess we were to assume that he didnt have a gun, just because some girl said he had a knife? Go at him with a taser and get your head blown off because of misinformation? no thanks
