Until a couple years ago, I travelled the USA extensively. I saw with my own eyes large expanses of areas where trees were being put back in. Areas that had not had a forest in a hundred years were being replanted.
Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Missouri are cutting renewed forests for the second, third, and fourth times. There are problems with these reforest plans. Things could be better.
But, the issue was trees and oxygen. My point, which was diverted by someone else was this; prairie grass and ocean seaweed, according to some scientists, are the MOST important sources of planetary oxygen. Both of these sources are being decimated.
Trees make our oxygen is a junk-science argument. We need trees replenishment for many reasons. But, the health of the planet now focuses on the prairies and oceans.

I guess they don't know how to replant redwoods as they only grow in the people rich costal areas of northern Ca. When I was young, you could buy redwood at the local lumber store, no more.

medicineman... when your were young you could no doubt also buy buggy whips at the local lumber store. But, mostly I agree with your premiss.
We have a big bio-diversity problem. If you take a test acre of land, almost anywhere in the USA, and examine it, you will find it lacks many of the tree, grass, flower, and animal species that would represent the original mix in nature. Usually, invader species are present as well.
We need to make sure that a representative original nature mixes are plotted around the states. California for instance probably has at least 8 different nature mixes. Missouri, has about 6. Some eastern states have 3 or 4. We should work to reverse the invader species, when they are harmful to the ecology as well. For instance, willow trees and mullen flowers are invader species, that do no apparent harm.
Pine tree (hybrids?) are the most common trees used in America because large companies grow them like any other cash crop. Dutch Elm and Asian Chestnuts are invaders that have decimated American forests. New hybrid elms and chestnuts are now being reintroduced. I think, in 20 years, hybrid trees, that look native will be covering much of our national park system.
Presently, our situation is sick, but not out of control. In fact, it appears that 150 years of mistakes are starting to reverse.

A beach that I went to nearly 300 days of the year (for 10 years) was closed down... so that the indigenous species could flourish.. one of the animals is the snowy plover.... I switched beaches.. the new beach is even better!!

Cock or no cock, no to nearly non-existent I'm sure, since you mention it, you don't need a gun because of the uncertainty criminals have in distinguishing just who is packing. You benefit from this situation, like it/believe it, or not, and stand to gain if more law abiding citizens go through the legal process of procuring a firearm in the name of self-defense. Even better, kill a home-invader, etc. Crime in DC is a prime example. No guns?; pick your victim and proceed with the crime without fear of getting your head blown off. Hence the stats. Yes, I do worry about little old ladies, it's called a social duty. Defend those incapable of defending themselves. Little old ladies carrying a firearm happily don't fall into that category. Try to rob one and you'll see who's the aggressor and whose the victim in that situation. Guaranteed it will be you who loses your head first.
