I hope I don't start arguments here, but American society is better now than during any era of the past.
Not seen it but I can't imagine it being WORSE than the English at this very moment...there again I'm having a moaning/feeling useless sesh right now and I overreacted a bit - but to the americans out there who think I'm talking crap, anyone in the north of England will tell you the same and know EXACTLY what I mean...I hope I don't start arguments here, but American society is better now than during any era of the past.
I completely disagree with this. America was at it's peak, imo, during the 1950's and early 1960's, right after WW2, when nobody else was around to compete.I hope I don't start arguments here, but American society is better now than during any era of the past.

Opportunity was literally everywhere. And that's the thing that most people, most older people these days just can't seem to realize.
Life was easier for people in those days, it is going to be harder for someone today to stabilize their financial and economic future in a more hostile financial and economic environment.
It's better because there's more mobility for everyone, products are much better and much safer, opportunities are available to everybody rather than being available only to upper class or upper middle class. There's not a school in all of America whose doors are open only to whites and there's no American afraid to stand in line at the polls.I'm not an american, so can't really comment, but i doubt that american society is that much different from that of the UK, and as such i HIGHLY doubt that you could justify how society is better now than it ever was.

So you're saying that we were at our peak during the Vietnam Era? I don't think so bud. I'm seeing that era as the worst of our past. Unless, of course, you are one of the few who approved of the war and all the thousands of innocents dying daily. During that era we were still under religious control to some extent, ie, businesses were required to close on Sunday, school dress codes. Unsafe, gas guzzling automobiles, lynchings, negroes who were forbidden to work, use restrooms that whites used, attend the same schools, churches, and the list goes on. Obviously you and I were both young at that time. It's not rare for people to look back on the days of their youth as good old days, but it wasn't really so.
Granted that there are a number of negative variables today that I'd like to change, but even with those negatives American Society is still at it's best.
No, Vietnam was late 60's early 70's. I said 50's-early 60's. What I meant was the US was prime for expansion and growth. The only place we could go was up. That's opportunity. Today, there's none of that to be seen, anywhere. The only place we're going is down, economically, financially and eventually, militarily. That's why I've been saying, pretty much since I could understand how government and politics works, that throwing military power around isn't a long term solution to protecting citizens. Military power changes hands as time changes.
Many things about society back then were worse, like the things you mentioned, but the US at large had a much brighter future then than now, again, that's just my opinion. I wasn't around to experience it firsthand, so what the fuck do I know right? I was born way after the Vietnam war ended.
american society is not at its best. i dont think there ever was or ever will be a best. business as usual is what i'd say. lets take a look: we fight the revolutionary war, now we're "free" soon after that the war of 1812. then we have a lil war with mexico over texas. few years later the civil war happens, or what some dub the southern war for independence. then some wars with the indians and the spanish american war. ww1, ww2, korea, vietnam, first gulf war. thats 5 major wars just in 100 years. and there were many other lil micro wars.
what makes us better now than any other time in history? we're fatter? we can communicate faster? we can get around easier? all this war and this is only as far as we've gotten?
It could be better, yes. But do you see it getting any better?I agree, it can still be better. But it hasn't been better at any time in the past.

Bite your tongue man, I use my tv for a monitor. LolEverything in this country is powered by GREED . ALL about the profits and marketing , they sit around and think " What can we design to make these fools work there ass off to get it ." How bout this ? Just turn off the fuckin TV and EVOLVE ! Instead our mind and bodies are softened by new technology and fast food . And god forbid you give your kid an ass whoopin in todays society . WTF America
Some people can use marijuana for medicine legally, whereas a few years ago they might have gone to jail for it. I see that as better. The day to day changes are subtle and can't often be seen except in retrospect. We have our first non-white president, and while I'm not especially fond of him, that the door to the White House is opened to non-whites, I also see that as better. Back to pot, we have a lot better stuff to smoke now and new strains coming out regularly, I like that. Phillips came out with a cmh bulb that puts mh and hps bulbs to shame. Plasma lights. Leds. Yes, I can see it getting better. It could be better, yes. But do you see it getting any better?
I have trouble seeing the fine print on those tiny monitors. Also, the 60 inch monitors take gaming to a whole new level. I quit playing WoW recently, but it was a whole lot funner with this setup. Get you one if you can.Lol Yeah a friend of ours has a 60 in and doing the same thing . Funny to see a desktop that huge!
You are pointing out small, insignificant things. Look at the big picture. Some people can use marijuana for medicine legally, whereas a few years ago they might have gone to jail for it.
