Dropastones Northern Lights #5 Grow Journal

What's up everybody, 58 days in flower and everything is looking good. I'm about 4 days ahead of schedule. I thought is was day 54 but I lost 4 days somewhere, but I found em after looking in my personal grow log.

The one on the left, the main fans coming right off the stalk are yellowing pretty good. It looks like normal nitrogen deficiency in the latter stages of flowering, so I'm not to concerned about it right now. But the odd thing is, it's way more prominent than the other two. I've done everything the same with each plant so I'm thinking it may just be a trait in that particular phenotype. The one in the back seems to be the best performer and she doesn't have as long of a cola like the two in the front, but her lower buds are bigger and thicker than the front two, so I think she'll yield the most. The one on the right is the tallest and throughout the whole grow she had the darkest green leaves and it seems they were twice as dark as the other two. Like I said I treated them all the same but each one has it's own specific traits.

I got some decent closeups with my crappy camera this time around so enjoy.

I also just bought a new Xtrasun Air cooled reflector a few days ago, but I'm playing the waiting game on the delivery. I like the cool tube but It's not ideal for spreading out the light efficiently. I know I'll get better coverage with the new reflector.

i ran HGS nl#5 a few times, no complaints, love to see how this turns out
my 1st seed was a good female, so not sure if pheno was unusual, but found it a pretty slow ripener
unless you like the strong head rush(didn't agree with my anxiety issues)
So how many weeks did you let yours go until they were fully ripe? The hairs on these are barley turning red and it looks like they have a ways to go. I'm not in a big hurry, I just hope they're done before Christmas.

Well I hope everybody enjoyed the show and I'll try to post some trichome pics tomorrow.

Peace.

my 1st plant was a female, which i revegged/cloned and regrew a a couple of times
so my experience was with just 1 phenotype, which may not reflect the strain
my 1st run i did 11 weeks of 12/12, the following grows i did 12 weeks
it was very slow to amber, pistils were not a good indicator of ripeness
the 11 week maturity was good recreational MJ, a very strong head rush
12 week maturity was much less edgy, much better for my anxiety needs

Right on man, thanks for the info. I'm looking at the 21st for 11 weeks, so hopefully they'll be done by then. I was following another thread where this guy was growing the same NL#5 from HGS and he pretty much said the same thing, his went 11 weeks but he felt that he could have pulled em a little sooner. He yielded 6 ounces dry from one plant but his 1 plant was much bigger than mine. I'll be happy if I can just pull 4 ounces from all three. This strain doesn't have much of an odor to it but according to him it will start to stink and the buds will really start to swell in the last cpl of weeks. Hmmm well see.

Peace.

Here's a few trichome pics for ya. I just found out it's pretty hard to get good pics when it's still on the plant. I didn't have the patience for it this morning but here are some decent ones anyway. I'll try again closer to harvest.

very nice macro pics, i appreciate the work these pics are, i found them a major project
lot of clear, some milky, but milky in a pic can be deceptive, may just be clear tric with some reflection

Thanks, those pics were taken with the Zorb, it's a 35X Microscope. Also I totally agree with what you just said. You can really tell when your trying to focus in on the shot because when it's out of focus they often look cloudy. My main goal is to see when they start turning amber. That's a sure sign that they're almost ready. If I cut a sample I can get some great shots but if it's still on the plant it's whole different story. I might try to post more in a few days when I have the patience.

one thing had had with this strain that i will pass along - golden yellow trichomes
now this could be how i grew it, the pheno, etc.
anyways, i found trics that turn golden yellow rather than the 'usual' amber
they also showed up in numbers after curing the bud, very curious if any show up in your grow

Right on brah, thanks for that bit of info. I'm no pro and I'll take all the tips and advice I can get.

Peace.

Simply awesome photos of the trics, wow. I use an Olympus digital camera, what are you using? When I review my photos, using the photo viewer program zoom, I get that clarity as well, but don't know if I can make a copy of a zoomed photo. Anyway, awesome grow, can't wait to see more. I also reside in the middle of the US btw :leaf:

Thanks for stopping by my friend. The trichome pics were taken with a Zorb microscope. They're relatively cheap and make it real easy to get those kind of shots. As for the camera I'm using, it's just a fuji fine pix 5.2 MP point and shoot, nothing fancy. I got to take a bunch of shots to find a few good ones I want to post.

More updates to come, so stay tuned.

I got my new hood today and I'm happier than a pig in slop. I had to change the cord set out but that was no biggie. My grow room has come a long way from when I first started out. I'm finally glad to say I don't think I can make anymore improvements other than adding co2, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. From now on I'll be working to improve my veg room.

So here is a few shots of my new hood and of course my ladies.

Enjoy.

The girls are looking great. Getting nice and fat. Isn't a A/C hood great at controlling temps. With the glass , you can really get the light lower .

Hell yeah dadio, I got em all within and inch of the glass right now. I'm also getting way better light distribution with this new hood man. The cool tube worked out good in a pinch but this new hood has got it beat hands down. I just ordered four .8 gallon air pots today as well. As soon as they get here I'll be dropping my new clones in em. I'm getting ready for round two with these NL#5.

I didn't think I was gonna do soil again, but right now I just like the ease of it. I haven't had to distill any water since I started with soil and I still got 10 gallons left. I've only had to feed em like 3 gallons a week and they're more than happy with that. I'm definitely gonna be going back to hydro but this has been a nice little vacation from it.

Peace brah.
