Thanks nathenking. This is my first run from seed. I've usually gotten scraggly clones from a friend who had great genetics but got rid of them all. These plants look much better at this stage than I'm used to.

Thanks for the kind words CypressRyan and Maximus. Cypress - I'm still debating on whether I will keep a mom. If I see one of the ladies really turn me on I'll probably take a cut and hold it back to find out what the smoke is like before determining if she's mom material or not. Otherwise, I'll just run them out and start over next time. I've got Space Bomb and The Void seeds on deck. Plus I'd really like to try A-13 and Vortex. I'm bummed that I didn't get a cut of my buddy's Vortex before he closed down shop.

Thanks Norcal. Since the last update I have transplanted the rest of the crew into the Autopots. They definitely seem happy in their new homes.
Here's a shot of the kids from 2 days ago. The Querkles are at Day 52, with Day 1 being the day they popped from seed. The Pandora's Box and Dairy Queen are at Day 40. They've all been topped and started on LST.

The youngin's are gaining ground fast on the Querkles. I'm glad I popped the Querkles early. I'm thinking now that the Querkles won't get the "Crop Circle" treatment. I'll probably just pull them over to the corners and let the main branches go up. I can already see the middle shoots reaching for the sky now that they've been opened up.
Dairy Queen 1 is definitely getting the circle treatment. It is super lanky. I wonder how much it'll stretch in flower.

I hate shopping so much that I have to reward myself for all the Xmas shopping by getting myself a gift or two. This year I bought a light meter from Amazon. So far I'd say it has been worth the $25 (on sale) I paid for it.
I thought the light looked like it was coming out of the Growzilla unevenly. It kind of makes sense this would happen since I only have one light on. My trusty new light meter confirmed that the side of the hood opposite the lit bulb gets the most light. I moved the rows of plants to one side about 6 inches and they are now centered to the light distribution.
With the hood 15 inches above the canopy the LUX is 30,000 at the edges of the canopy and 55,000 in the middle. I was surprised at how much it drops off at the edges - we're only talking about a distance of 15 inches or so. I'll definitely be rotating the plants often during veg. We'll see if the dispersion is more even with both bulbs running when I go to flower.
I'm a total newb when it comes to light optimization. I've always used the "warm hand" method of figuring out how high to keep the hood above the canopy. Now that I have a meter, I had to figure out whether my readings were good or not. I read in Cervante's book that 27K LUX is the high end of usable light for veg and 107.5K for flower. I read on another site that Rosenthal's book says they can use 54K LUX in veg and 80K in flower. I guess I'm in the range of their recommendations.

Sorry for the long silence. With family in town for the holidays I haven't had time to do a proper photo shoot. I did sneak out this morning during lights out to get a couple of quick canopy shots. As you can see, they've filled in nicely over the last 10 days.

I'm anticipating about a 2x stretch across the board and can't go much over 2.5 feet in total before they get too close to the light. I'm hoping to get in there for another round of bondage in the next few days. Probably start flower in a week or so.

I was most excited about Pandora's Box before starting this grow. I just love the high off that bud. I've never smoked Querkle before but am a big fan of Purple Urkle. Now that I've got the Querkle going in the shed I'm super stoked about it. It's such a fun plant to grow. After I topped and bent the main stems the inside of the plant is completely filling in with future bud sites. Can't wait to flip the switch and watch those buds get fat!

nice journal Medshed. Those autopots seem like a good method with soil under lights. I've been wanting to try the Pandora's Box myself. guess the Qleaner and 3d is next though for me. My DQ was just off the hook, fat balls of crystal. It grows very short and squat so think about middle of ring with plenty of elbow room. Good luck with your grow. slab

Thanks Slab. I'm glad you reminded me that DQ grows short and fat. I saw it looking stretchy in early veg so figured it would get tall. I can see now that it is staying pretty short. Based on how the overall canopy is developing I don't think I'll do Hobbes' Crop Circle of Bud on the DQ. Now that I've tied it off I'll leave it alone and let it go up. Space is starting to get tight in the room now but once I sex the plants and pull the males there should be enough elbow room.
I just can't say enough good things about the autopots. I'm especially lovin' 'em with the Supersoil. Last summer was my first run with Supersoil in the autopots (outdoors). Before that I was using a home-made base soil and feeding with Earth Juice. The poo stew got really funky sitting in the bottom of the pots and came close to clogging up the lines from the reservoir. With the Supersoil I can run straight water in my reservoir and everything is so much cleaner. In fact, I don't have nearly as many fungus gnats as I did in the past. They were probably loving that sewer water sitting in the bottom of the autopots. So long suckers! I will probably brew up a batch of EJ for later in flower to top feed with. I've got a bunch of it around and I imagine the girls will like some extra calories later on - especially since they're only in 4 gallon pots.

The family left today and I got back to the shed for some work. Looks like it's a female dominant family, which makes me happy. Unfortunately, I've only got 1 Pandora's Box female. Good news is it's the mutant. In total, the boys about to get the axe are PB1, PB2 and Q3.
It has been cold here in Colorado's foothills the last few days! Since the shed is heated by the light during the day it was getting chilly (max temp of 70F) in there with just the 400 watt MH going. I decided to flip on the 600 watt HPS to keep the temps up around 75. So now the pubescent pot is basking in 1000 watts. With the extra lumens we're now up to 40,000 LUX on the edges of the room and 150,000 LUX in the middle of the canopy.
I did another round of bondage today so the canopy is about 13 inches tall now. I'm going to feed another round of Great White for root development tomorrow and probably flip to 12/12 in a few days.
Here's what the crew looks like now (after bondage and spreading around the room a bit):

Now for the close-ups. I got a new camera for Christmas and I think I need to set it to macro or something for the close-ups. I notice some of the shots are really clear in the middle but out of focus on the edges. I'm excited about the camera, just have to get used to it. I'm not at all a camera buff and this is definitely the fanciest one I've had.

Last night I killed off the boys so now the ladies will get all of my love. First thing I did was spread them around the room and tie them down a bit more to really open up the middles. Then I fed them some Great White (.5 teaspoon/gallon) with Sucanat (2 tablespoons/gallon). I mixed it all together - 2 gallons total - and gave everyone a quart. The rest I threw into the reservoir. I've never used Sucanat before and wasn't sure if I should mix it and the Great White together like that but figured wouldn't hurt. As I understand it, the micro-beasties eat sugar. I figure a serious feeding frenzy went down when they all got thrown together in the gallon jugs. Kinda like feeding day when I used to have Pirahnas. Damn those guys could mow through a school of goldfish...
I also looked back through old grow journals and decided to veg longer. I've fairly consistently gotten about 2 z per plant flowered at 12" and 3 z when flowered at 20". Of course different strains perform differently, but there was a good trend across strains. I'm shooting for 3+ z from these girls. That should keep my patients and I well fed on medibles and fresh bud.

I decided to bring on the short Fall days when the tallest parts of the canopy hit 19", and the overall canopy hit 16". The ladies have all bushed out nicely so I think we'll get plenty of bud by flowering now.
Unfortunately, I separated my shoulder in a snowboard wipe-out on Sunday. With only one working arm I can't get the girls out of the grow room for a proper photo shoot. I guess the good news is that they should be starting to flower nicely for the next round of closeups.
