I have been smoking for over 7 years now and all I have ever known is SWAG!!! Ive came across some good smoke a few times in my life and really enjoyed it. I hate that every day when im smoking swag; all I can ever think about is "Where the fuck did this come from? How many people have touched this? How did it get smuggled in? Did some lil mexican risk his life just so I can a lil high?

I have always considered frowing my own but im 22 years old and just really never had the place to do it. Ive always been living with mom and dad or renting a place out. Now I finally have my Own house and I believe I have the perfect building to start up a grow room. I am really excited about growing. I have been doing alot of research on rollitup.org and let me just tell everyone that I have a great feeling about this website. I feel like all of you people out there are like my long lost best friends.

With all the research I have done, I still feel like im lost. I just dont know what I should do first. Should I go ahead and buy my seeds first then the equipment?

Im a complete noob but i feel like with the help of this site and you guys that I will be to do just fine.

Hi Kevin Welcome to RIU!:-o

Well feeling a little overwhelmed with knowledge is easy to understand! I would personally set up all you grow room and all your equipment then but your seeds..

the first and most important step you need to decide is what way do you want to grow them? in soil, in air, in water....

I grow hydroponically myself and have seen some rediculous results of 14 ounce from one plant in hydro!!

Check out these two grow journals, both of them are a form of hydro and inspired me...
check out my grow at the bottom of my post too if you fancy it.

good luck!

start easy like I did. cfl's and soil grow. - this can teach you alot about growing without worring about heat.. hydro.. eleborate set ups..

this is my first grow.. and this is what its morphed into

had some troubles and whatnot but learned how to get through it. .. but I grew this in a large cardboard box..

but get your equpment first.. you don't want to sprout and then have nothing to grow it.

i done my first grow in my garden shed in a cardboard box painted with 200watt t5 set up

but i agree get your lights first idsay start with cfls or t5s as they can be used later for vegging and your seedlings will love them

good luck and keep em green

I think I want to start off by growing in soil. I would love to grow hydro one day but since this is gonna be my first grow I think growing in soil is for me right now.

dont' get MG soil.. try to get somehting with NOT alot of nutes (like avoid time release) in it so you cna control what goes in and out of your soil

Personally I have never had a problem with MG I've grown in it about 3 times and my girls loved it.(maybe I just got lucky) I grow hydro now though if you don't have much cash it does work. I would still recommend nute free soil though it's a lot more forgiving. Just my .2

So ive decided to grow in soil and use CFL's as my lighting. Im kinda on a low budget and using soil and cfl's just seems to be perfect for me. So now I need to figure out what kind of soil to get. What have you guys used and think works the best?

This guy said it perfect.

Those light adapters are things you can grab from your local hardware store. I would get you an area either using a small dresser or cabinet or a tent before you worry about light. You will want to know the size of what ever you are using before you can build your light set up. Something like that picture would be in a small cabinet or closet and would work fine to learn with but you might not have a way t hang the adapters like he did where you build. Just build your grow box/tent/room then light it according to specs you can find all around here.

Hi ya Kev :)
I can sense your excitement ahahah :)

Good sound advice from the guys above , Start small ... get your gear together and set up your growing area first , Get it dialed in and running so you get all the tweaks and adjustments done before you start your grow ...You will be thankful you did :)

If your thinking about soil .... You might want to try Coco , Here is a very nice thread that will tell you all the benefits of using Coco as well as tips and tricks .

Good Luck and enjoy your grow :)

ALSO make sure you get the right CFL's. 6500 lumes to veg... 2700 to flower. if you don't you won't be giving it what it needs

Hey Kevin,
Check out my current journal. I'm working on my 6th coco grow now.
Coco is the shit!!! Glad to have another Coconaut joining the Cocommunity.

Budget is going to be the biggest limiting factor. You're going to need at least $100 to get started with. Honestly, for a first time grow, I think you should budget more like $250 to $400 and hope to produce at least a few ounces of premo nuggs. These systems pay for themselves twice over very quick, so don't be afraid to put your money in the right places. You'll get what you pay for.

My suggestion for CFL bulbs is a combination of daylight 23w, 25w, and 27w bulbs contained in clamp light reflectors. Y-sockets are good for increasing the number lamps cheaply rather than having to get a new clamp light for each bulb.

My suggestion to you is to get everything you need online, except the bulbs and reflectors. You can get those from the local hardware store, each bulb/reflector/socket is going to cost you about $8. You can also get inexpensive circulation fans at places like target and walmart.

www.plantlightinghydroponics.com
www.bghydro.com
www.igrowhydro.com

These places will carry what you need.

I suggest Botanicare coco and their CNS 17 coco/soil Grow/Bloom/Ripe system, I also suggest 2 gallon smartpots as planters.

Figure... Coco, Nutrients, Planters: $70 (after shipping). Bulbs, fans, thermometer: $90 (locally). Genetics: $55 to $100. Grow tent: $90

So you've spent a little more than $300 and you've got everything you really need to grow in coco. That last $80 or so should be in the "rainy day" fund in case something goes wrong or you'd like to add a pH meter or something. Clones can be kept, coco recycled, bulbs, fans, tent reused... So all you need is a little more nutrients (like $30) and you can repeat the grow even better.

$400 can cover two grows of four to six smaller plants and you could easily harvest 5 ounces over the course of maybe 6 months. Save your cash during that time, maybe $800 to $1200, and then you can setup the bigger tent with the HID lighting and the upgraded ventilation. Then you're pulling weight of dank and sitting "fat and happy."

Take it slow. Have a plan. Develop your skills and save your money. You're starting young. Just consider where you can be by... 25, with just a little investment here and there every couple of months. Shit pays for itself too.
