Is 1000 watts overkill?

no! the fan pushes air threw the light and to the other side of the cabinet venting the air outside of the cab.the exaust fan on top of the cab sucks out all the smell and remaining air to the carbon filter on the side of cab. you should have 3 holes in your cab.in and out and exaust.nothing is inn my cab but plants.

fuck no.... get a strong, good, quiet fan....i know for a fact, 200 plus cfm rating will cool a 1000 watter

put a inline fan on it. duct to it....and duct from it.

having an aircooled light reflector with it being sealed gives you the ability to run co2 and not waste it!

so your saying that a 200 cfm would cool a cab with a 600. and your cab stays cool.if you want to slow it down get a speed controller.

What do you think the temp difference would be? Lets say his cab with 600 and no air cooled hood vs with cooled hood.

Your saying a 200cfm will completely displace all of the heat being produced?

Im in the same situation and dont want to buy a 600 and be stuck with it.

a 200 cfm fan wont completely displace any heat given off from hid lighting..... but it will handle majority of it.

200cfm fan on a 600watter i would think it could keep that shit cooled EASILY!

all you are looking for is something to cool it down. you dont want ALL the heat to be completely gone from the room because then you would have to have some type of heating element

Hello - my grow area is slightly larger but very similar to your box and I use a 1000w air-cooled light. I use a 170 CFM fan to exhaust my light and a separate 440 CFM fan to exhaust the box.

You can look at my journal for a day by day condition report which includes temperatures but I will tell you that if you are growing in a warm climate (or in a warm area of your house) you may have difficulty keeping the temperature down. To be honest, the biggest temp problems I had were keeping my reservoir temperatures down.

My advice is - if you go with 1000w light and are in a warm climate, you may want to invest in a water chiller for your res.
