You're as bad as me once we lock onto something, huh !? lol
Thanks for sharing the info too, especially with NL#5.
You got me/us real curious now.
Can't wait to see your success so I can copy ! lmao

Curious about that aerator.
It can sit out the water/cooler and just pump fresh air from the surrounding environment into the rez ?
Do the test already !! roflmao

ok i just read this again, it's not an aerator, this is an oxygenator, its a recurculating bilge pump, it has a clever impeller design that produces millions of microscopic bubbles, totaly silent, vibration free & externaly mounted, the "keepalive" brand has a barb at the bottom to attach an air line, that way you could in theory add portable oxygen tank, but we just attach a small air pump & viola, millions & millions of minature air bubbles, show me ANY airstone & pump combination that beats that, i chose the external mounted for ease & to diffuse the bubbles away & not directly at the delicate roots, but now my crazy head got the idea of a small thermostaticly controled freezer for reservoir, this way mount an internall pump at the bottom, cheaper pump too & more options in size, if you need the details, ask

About to join the club, I have a ? where do you get the 2 in thick stryo for the lid. I went to Home Depot with no luck.

I didn't find it that thick either. I used the 1/2 thick insulated residential sheathing and used 3 layers of it then I wrapped it in mylar. It can be done a few ways. The sheathing was sturdier than the other sheets of insulation was. I know some of you use the lids but I spent $100 on my cooler and not gonna mess up a perfectly good lid, so I put my lid away for safe storage and further use.

Got mine from Lowes for around $20 for a 4 x 8 foot sheet.
Lowes also had thinner sheets.
1/2 inch, 3/4 inch and 1 inch I believe.

Try Lowes too BB.
I feel you about the real cooler lids, although it does look nice when you drill holes in it cleanly.
Mine have been unscrewed and placed in the garage, but after 4 grows I won't be using these for anything else.
So I will evently drill holes in mine too.
You just can't beat the air-tight seal they provide compared to my styrofoam lids.
Most def won't be any light leaks unless it's through the hydroton and net pot, which happens more than growers think.
If my 5 inch pots are not completely filled, I have a small light leak here and there.
Stuck a flash light in my coolers to check !!

Great thread lotsa great info, I'm takin a chair... I'm still using totes but can see coolers in my future.

Flo, I used the D cell operated bucket aerators for a couple power outages this winter. They work but are extremely loud.

Thanks LY, and welcome !
We appreciate the info about those battery powered aerators too.
I figured they would be handy for a complete power failure.
It would most def save my little garden ! lol

you don't live in arkansas then?? there's a wally on damn near every corner AND they're taking out the momz-n-popz stores left and right. wally will take out every store in your town so you can drive an hour to fight the lines

No, I don't live there.
And we already know all THAT info too.
Where've you been the last 10yrs ?!? lmao

What kind of room temps do you all have who are concerned about res temps? I keep my temp at plant tops under 80, the outer room temp low 70s, and I just never worry about res temps. I know they will be about the same as the room temp which is fine.

My tent ambient is 79F - 82F.
Outside the tent is 75F - 78F.

Rez temps are a concern because you get MAX dissolved oxygen around 65F.
So unless your outer room temp is something like 55F, your not keeping the best temp in YOUR rez.
Dissolved Oxygen is gone around 84F, but growers will notice probs like root rot long before that if they keep warm rez temps ( 73F+ ).

I think you're knocking yourself out for a few degrees that don't matter. Also, the water in the res will come to room temp no matter how well insulated it is after a time. The whole idea of insulation is just to slow the time it takes to arrive at equilibrium. If the temp outside the tent is 75, it would require energy to keep the res temp at 65. Physics.

View attachment 1513355 Look at what I found at Wally World for $9 !!

It's a 2.1 gallon Igloo cooler that I will use for clones !! View attachment 1513389

When the lid is pulled off, then top of the cooler is still nice and level for my styrofoam lid !View attachment 1513353

It will hold 12 - 2 inch neoprene inserts with no prob. :weed:

I will do like Subcool and only take clones, never keep mother plants.
Keep what I want to flower out and discard the others. View attachment 1513391

View attachment 1513422 Can't wait to clone these girls I'm growing right now.

Around the 2nd week of bloom is when I will take clones because there will less Nitrogen in the stems, which slows root formation in clones.

And taken from the BOTTOM of the plant and NOT the top. View attachment 1513424
More and older hormones at the base.
Therefore bottom stems generally root faster than upper new-growth stems.

It measures : 13"L x 9.5"W x 9"H

Ice water bottles is all the energy needed. and my tent stays between 65 at night and a high of 75 during lights on. My res temps 60-68 with no ice

Knocking myself out................................ hardly. View attachment 1513474
Knocking these yields out........................ very much so. View attachment 1513475

As for the 2nd and 3rd sentences :

THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT IS GROWING IN COOLERS.
Notice all those probs others have, even periodically, in their thin-walled 5gal PAINT buckets ?! View attachment 1513477

For sentence #4 :

Even at the beach they are good for so many hours in the sun, hence frozen water bottles to bring temps back down and maintain them for a while.

And THAT'S called a chemical reaction........ENDOTHERMIC (melting ice) to be exact. View attachment 1513479
Thank you nonetheless for your time and input !

Well my lids are insulated styrofoam, what's lining the inside of coolers, so a sharp knife was all it took for me.
