Paradise Vertigo AF, DIY Grow Tent

I alwais wondered how would a AF be ... so i decided to grow out Vertigo from Paradise Seeds ... didnt find that much info or journals on it ... but i said wth vertigo it shall be.

so .. now i am at day 24 , i will show you sptep by step pics to how i got here lol

I'm using a cooled 250w hps, magnetic balast, DIY tent(2.4 feet by 1.6 feet by 5.2 feet) spent making it about 30$ or so, 2 extractors(a 280 cm/h one and a 190 cm/h one) and a 250 cm/h carbon filter

Growin in canna tera pro orgain soil, using biobizz organic range for nutes. watering with 5.8 ph and the runoff is at 6.9-7.2 .

that setup had one major problem ... heat : (i placed them from seed under the 250hps)

Tried to solve the heat trouble with a cool tube :



Worked to some extent but ... was not too happy with it so i said wth ... a tent costs 200$ why would i not i build my own for like 30$ ? so i got a textile wardrobe and some some light proof black and white reflective foil and after a night's work this came out : (they are at day 15 btw )



Day 16 ( heat problem definetly solved ) :



Day 19 started smelling like hell, no sign of sex yet ( been on 24/0 light schedule)



Had to do something with the smell ... it overtaken my entire house ... even my clothes were smelling like fresh herb so i added a carbon filter and the 280 cm/h extractor. things are much much much better now

Here is some info on the strain, i hope for some 20-25 g /plant, how much do you reckon i could get out of this beauties ? (they showed sex at day 22, swiched them to 20/4 light schedule since then )

Type: Autoflowering Indica /Sativa
Yield: 500 grams per m2 indoors. Outdoors 75 grams per plant.
Lifecycle: from seed to harvest, approx. 60 days indoors and max. 70 days outdoors.
Outdoors in colder regions Northern latitude: Start in May/ June and finish in July/ August. In warmer areas multitple harvests are possible. In tropical areas the whole year round.
Effect: heavy potent
Aroma /Taste: citric intense bouquet
THC: 15-18 %

With all parameters in check, a good autoflower will definitely yeild 20-25 g....I use a 400w hps, in a tent with intake/exhaust fans similiar to yours....grow all in small 4 " pots with nute less soil, biobizz nutes and I typically get at least that much...good karma to ya...let us know how it turns out....haven't heard of Paradise Vertigo....

Super Oldreefer .... well noither did i, i stumbled upon it by accident ... trolling on the seed bank sites and the preview picture was awesome lol. i'd like to see your grow, that 400 hps must be working wonder for you ... cant say i'm not happy with my 250, but i know a 400 or 600 could do much much much better. my pots are round 9"wide and 7"high

Just a little update, still day 24 but since last night they filled out allot, pistils are shooting all over , it's fantastic !

Fell free to drop some advice/ critique , im not much of an experienced grower, this is my 3'd grow (first one went really really bad lol and the second produced some smokable bud, but nothing special)

i know, those burns burn my eyes too lol
normaly i watter them each 2 days (thirsty girls) and as for the nutes, 1 wattering i use half strenght next wattering 1/4 strenght next half next 1/4 next half next 1/4 and they seem to love it.

only i messed up a couple of times and forgot what is it, to do half strenght or 1/4 ) so i did half strenght ... that roasted them a lil bit. trying to fix that now with 1/4 every wattering. Do you think that is still too much ?

ok cool, your back on track then. just keep it at 1/4th. keep in mind, these plants are in pots so the nutes get concentrated. look up "making it rain" this method rocks!

sure will do, also i forgot to mention, every time i watter them i let them runoff about .... half a liter or so, dont want any salts in there . ( on my first grow, i burned my babies with chemical nutes to the point there were salt cristals on top of the soil lol, idiot me )

It is all about how mother nature does things and with her being the absolute best gardener there is I set out to copy her style.
The PH of rain (in most places) is 5.6 so I PH my water to 5.8, to understand why you need to understand how everything works in nature and why they say soil is a buffer. This is why soil PH is somewhat important because when it is dry the PH should be around 7 or neutral. When it rains the soil takes on the wet PH of the water in the case of rain it is lowered. The acidic nature of rain activates things in the soil basically processing avaiable nutes and making them available to the plants. But at the low PH the plants can't get at them, I have attached a photo showing at what PH level the different nutes become available to the plant.
What happens is the plant is basically drowing and starving when it rains so it goes into hyperdrive to wick the water out of the ground in order to survive, now that they transpire anyway but much harder when it rains. As they do this the soil buffers back to it's original PH slowly and as this happens nutes become available to the plant in the various ranges. (one reason you see more growth on the second day).
Most soil growers will PH their water and nutes down in the low 6's and as high as 6.8 but this does not give the hyperdrive wicking effect, they will just transpire normally and slowly if you do this. Hence the growth you see in my pics from making it rain because I basically only let them rest for one day (to dry out and get O2) between making it rain and it is very important to know how to read them to know that this is where things are at otherwise you will easily fall into the overwater trap and cause them stress and harm possibly even kill them. It is also important that they have a healthy root system in order to be able to wick the water out of the ground faster.
TIP: if they are growing fast and wanting water in short periods of time you know you have healthy roots part of learning how to read them and one of the things to be aware of.
This is also the reason that I use chemical nutes as they are readily available to the plant right away as the wicking process goes through the various PH ranges getting back to neutral, it is a slower process with organic nutes as the rain activates and the little mico critters eat and poop processing the nutes so the plant can use them. now you must also understand that adding chem nutes lowers the PH of your soil with accumulated salt build ups, when you make it rain everytime you are basically doing what we call the flush (though in the other than MJ world it is most commonly reffered as leeching the soil) and washing unused nutes (salts) out of the soil thus allowing you to repeat the process all over again without having to worry about salt building up.
Yet another reason that it is slower when going organic cause you are washing mico's out as well and then waiting for them to multiply back up and this is why I use Jack's because it is one of the best chem nutes available on the market today. JR Peters has a very good reputation and has been one of the best nutes for agriculture and gardening for many years.
The process for container gardening is simple you make it rain with the low PH water and the plant goes into hyperdrive, you watch the top 3 inches of soil for drying out and when it does you feed them nutes but only till you see a slight runoff insuring that the pot is now full of nutes. Plant remains in hyperdrive and now feeds off the readily available nutes, you then wait till the soil dries and repeat. While the process is very simple it is the learning to read them that can be complicated and cause confusion.
Learning/knowing when to do things is the most important part of the process. It is also important not to overfeed them which causes nute burn and other problems, thus the reason we start out with 1/4 of what the nute package says and slowly work our way up to discover what the plant can handle. I hope that explains it better for everyone

here is the day 26 update. sadly i wont post any updates for like 3 or 4 days, since i'm going through some shit .... i have to practicaly keep them in sealed bags and in the dark for more then 16 hours/day .... up until monday or maybe more ....

crappy ... but has to be done for my safety . after that, if they survive, updates every day hope it wont bee much of a shock :-<

Hello again RIU.

Sorry i have not updated for the last 4 days, my landlord is selling the place so i had all sorts of people running around my place, so i had to keep them in plastic bags for .... sometimes even more then 24 hrs ... they have been stunted and stressed like crazy for this 4 days, so not much growth been shown, but ... theyre tring to survive. Sadly they will keep being stressed by the plastic bags until about sunday or so, till i move to my new place .... sad but has to happen.

so here are the day 30 pics, one of them has some weird burns on it, looks like ozon damage, but i think it's just from the plastic bag stress .... you tell me what do you think it might be.

also i noticed that even if it is the same strain, one out of them 5 , apears to be a slight different feno, it has more indica resemblance then the other 4, fatter leaves and all that. who knows ...

other then that, they seem to manage, there are buds allover the place, with lots and lots of collas . enjoy :

you and me both brother, they do look strong, gotta say this strain is verry user friendly"from my point of view" , but .... more stress is coming to them the next few days, i hope they dont turn hermie or die off on me. would be quite sad considering this is my first AF grow lolz
